MW3 players can’t believe “useless” rifle still hasn’t been buffed

Modern Warfare 3‘s huge roster of weapons receives regular buffs and nerfs to keep the meta competitive, but one Marksman Rifle has been absolutely “useless” since launch and players are baffled that it hasn’t been improved.

The Marksman Rifle category doesn’t have too many popular picks in multiplayer, aside from the iconic Kar98k. But, fans feel that MCW 6.8 is easily the worst in its class and is in desperate need of a buff.

Reddit user ‘Latro2020’ shared a post asking, “How is this gun STILL so useless?” before going on to call out the rifle for being “horrible” to use since launch.

“I searched this sub to see if I was just bad & this gun isn’t as bad as I thought it was, but there are posts from RELEASE talking about how awful this gun is,” said the OP.

“Now we’re 5 seasons into this game and this gun is still outclassed by everything, except now we have guns like of the Superi & STG which this gun will lose to EVERY TIME.”

Despite being seen as extremely underpowered in both MW3 and Warzone, the MCW 6.8 has been mostly ignored by the regular balancing changes, the last of which arrived in Season 5. In fact, the last time it was adjusted was in Season 2, where it was actually nerfed.

Plenty of other MW3 players agreed with the OP, claiming that only a handful of weapon categories are truly viable in most matches.

“You need the 30-round mag and it’s STILL below decent. You gotta land 1 headshot for a 2 hit kill but at that point, you might as well use another weapon,” said one reply, before another added: “Welcome to SHG cod where only ARs and SMGs are viable.”

That being said, other fans pointed out that the MCW 6.8 is fairly effective in Hardcore, where health is much lower and the rifle can one-shot.

Others mentioned that the Full-Auto Conversion Kit makes it slightly more useable. But even this received a nerf to its magazine size after launch, reducing it from 30 to 20.

MW3 Season 5 Reloaded is the next major update to arrive, but with Black Ops 6 coming in October with a new lineup of guns, it might be too late for the MCW 6.8 to become a meta contender.
