MW3 players claim Perk is so “pointless” it must be bugged

Modern Warfare 3 lets players choose their own play style by equipping different Perks with unique buffs and effects, but one piece of Gear has been slammed as “pointless” by the community.

Modern Warfare 3 has finally arrived and players are already hard at work leveling up to unlock new gear. Sledgehammer Games’ new multiplayer features 37 new weapons to unlock, and it hasn’t taken long for the community to figure out the early meta.

But a strong loadout requires more than just guns, as Perks play a major role in giving each class a specific play style. MW3 has a long list of Perks, this time tied to Gear, all of which offer powerful effects that can give you an advantage.

However, in the early days of Modern Warfare 3’s lifespan, players have called out a Perk that seems far less useful than the others.

In a post on the MW3 subreddit, ‘trigger5k’ called the EOD Padding the “most pointless Perk in the game,” before adding: “I’ve been getting destroyed by random grenade throws despite having EOD padding. What is the point of this perk if i still die to grenades not even close to me?”

EOD Padding is supposed to reduce the damage taken from enemy explosives, such as Frag Grenades and Semtex. But the OP, as well as many other players, seemed to feel that the Gear actually has “0 effect at all.”

Some even argued that the Perk could be broken in MW3, as it only protects against damage from specific explosives. “It is bugged against regular nades. It works fine against everything else. For some reason regular frags ignore the perk,” said one reply.

Others agreed there could be an issue with EOD Padding, explaining that it actually seems too strong in Hardcore matches.

“I think the whole EOD perk and the way it interacts with explosives is just spaghetti code in general at the moment because it’s the opposite in hardcore,” said ‘xRooBadleyx.’ “It’s the most broken perk ever put into a cod. You can’t kill anyone with explosives.”

The devs are yet to confirm whether or not the EOD Padding Perk is bugged in MW3, but if this turns out to be the case, players can expect a fix to arrive in the coming weeks.
