MW3 players fear new cel-shaded variant will only make hated map variety worse

Despite an update to fix map variety, MW3 players continue to express frustration with map variants, and complaints may get worse as a cel-shaded version of Stash House is set to arrive in Season 5 Reloaded.

Cel-shaded maps haven’t received the warmest of welcomes in Season 5, as players have claimed that the art style isn’t great for enemy visibility. Not only that but cel-shaded map variants have been slammed pretty hard for reducing map variety.

Players have had situations where they can choose between a map and its cel-shaded variant, like Rust and Tonoxide. Despite an update to address the issue, players have still been encountering the problem and are now worried that Ink House will make the problem worse.

This is the new cel-shaded Stash House map variant coming in Season 5 Reloaded, which was announced along with a bunch of new modes. It adds another chance for players to get a map vote between Stash House and the cel-shaded version of it, Ink House.

It’s especially prominent in Small Map Mosh Pit, but it’s also an issue that’s been reported in Quick Play too, where there’s supposed to be a much bigger pool of maps.

Under a Reddit post that highlighted the issue, players expressed their frustrations with yet another cel-shaded map joining the roster. “Oh my god, way to ruin the experience even further,” said one player, while another agreed, “Why do they torture [us] with cell shading.”

There are a few in the thread who share more positive opinions on cel-shaded maps, however, so it’s not all doom and gloom for Ink House’s announcement. “Controversial opinion but I like the cell shade maps. It allows me to have more maps to easily grind camos on. And they look nice,” commented one user.

Another shared a similar sentiment, as they also claimed to like cel-shaded maps, but they added that the devs should “probably remove the original version of the variant map, so it’s not filling the map pool.”

We’ll have to wait and see if the Season 5 Reloaded patch comes with any tweaks for map variety. The devs did respond to previous complaints with an update, so perhaps they’ll do something similar if they continue.

Black Ops 6 is set to introduce a variety of new maps for players to indulge in, and you can get your hands on the beta early to experience them first.
