MW3 is host to an abundance of multiplayer maps, but some are claiming that the rotation has been ruined by variants and the lack of variety. On August 13, the developers addressed these concerns.

In their X post, they announced a playlist update that “aims to improve the variety of maps in both Quick Play and the Small Map Mosh Pit playlist.” Also, they detailed how each playlist would be affected.

For Quick Play, which features the full roster of MW2 2009 maps alongside newly added maps from seasonal updates, the “chance to encounter small maps in voting has been decreased.”

In the Small Map Mosh Pit, which includes some of the game’s most packed maps, the variants are “less likely to overwhelm the voting options.”

Before the update, I often noticed the absence of certain maps like Karachi, Wasteland, and Derail, despite selecting Quick Play. The introduction of variants worsened this issue, increasing the chances of encountering the same maps repeatedly in pre-match votes.

This led user ‘Lew1989’ to showcase on Reddit what they called the “worst map vote,” including the choice between Rust and its recently added variant Toonoxide. The player asked, “Where’s the rest of the maps, I’m sure some I haven’t played in months.”

A separate post also shared a similar sentiment, as user ‘Lumenprotoplasma’ believed that MW2 2009 maps such as “Wasteland, Derail, [and] Estate” were “removed.” The only maps they saw were Scrapyard, Rust, and Afgan.

After sharing the news through the X post, the devs stated they would continue to monitor players’ feedback on map variety. We’ll be sure to update this piece if any new information is shared regarding map availability in MW3.

Players won’t have to wait long for fresh content, as Black Ops 6 will soon introduce a new roster of maps to explore.
