The Modern Warfare 3 meta is starting to take shape as several ARs and SMGs are rising to the top. However, it’s the MW2 Riot Shield that is making waves as the weapon that players want to see nerfed the most.

Thanks to the Carry Forward feature, Modern Warfare 3 players have access to an incredible amount of weapons at launch. While some players have gravitated toward using the meta weapons from MW2 like the TAQ-56, the Carry Forward feature also brought the Riot Shield to MW3.

It hasn’t taken long for players to make a case against the seemingly infuriating Riot Shield, as complaints concerning the notorious weapon have started to pile up. The main point of contention for players is the Riot Shield’s ability to cover players’ backs and heads when not in use.

The Reddit post below kicked off a discussion amongst the MW3 community as players offered several solutions on how to nerf the Riot Shield in an upcoming update. Most players are hoping that the devs will take the situation into their own hands but they offered solutions nonetheless.

As calls for “No more turtles” rang loud and clear in the comments, one player suggested that the weapon should hurt your ability to move around quickly: “Riot shield on back should destroy movement speed honestly.”

Another player added to the idea of limiting movement with another counter that could balance the controversial Riot Shield in MW3: “Either make it so you can’t go prone with a riot shield in your hands or on your back, or make 7.62 AP and above AP ammo penetrate the shield.”

Meanwhile, other tips included removing the Riot Shield’s compatibility with the Gunner Vest, which allows players to carry two Primary weapons: “Just make it so it can’t be used with gunner vest. That’s all that’s needed to make it a non-issue.”

Players can expect weapon balance changes in the days after MW3’s November 10 launch, so we’ll keep you posted if any changes are made to the Riot Shield.
