MW3 Season 6 is the final seasonal update for the game ahead of Black Ops 6, bringing with it The Haunting event, new weapons, and plenty of spooky modes to try out.

After months of content drops, the lifecycle of Modern Warfare 3 is almost at an end as players look ahead to Treyarch’s new game. But before BO6 takes center stage and integrates with Warzone, the devs have a season full of Halloween-themed content planned.

MW3 Season 6 release date & time

The Modern Warfare 3 Season 6 update drops on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET / 5 PM BST. This was first revealed by the Season 5 Battle Pass timer seen in-game, and later confirmed by the devs.

Not only will this patch bring all of the Season 6 content, but it will also remove all of the Black Ops 6 beta files to free up storage space.

New weapons in MW3 Season 6

Two new guns arrive in Modern Warfare 3 Season 6 – the DTIR 30-06 Battle Rifle and Kastov LSW LMG.

The rifle is a “hard-hitting” weapon with a slow fire rate, designed to be accurate when taking out enemies at long range. Meanwhile, the LMG is geared more towards close-range gunfights thanks to its “best-in-class” fire rate and TTK.

Both can be unlocked by completing Sector 6 and 9 of the Season 6 Battle Pass respectively, and are both free rewards that can be earned without the premium version.

The Haunting brings new game modes to MW3

Season 6 marks the return of The Haunting event in Warzone, and multiplayer is also receiving plenty of Halloween-themed modes.

Hordepoint

After debuting in CoD WW2, The Haunting brings back Hordepoint, a twist on the classic Hardpoint. As normal, you’ll need to secure and defend a series of rotating positions around the map, scoring your team points for every second you hold it.

However, the difference is that you won’t just be defending it from the enemy team, as the map is infested with hordes of zombies looking to overrun you.

Mutation

Mutation mode returns in Season 6, which takes place on a variety of different modes and splits players into teams of regular Operators and mutants. While the normal team will use their custom loadouts, the mutants will have the choice of these classes:

  • Mutated Leaper: Faster movement speed and better melee damage as well as the ability to detect enemies around corners.
  • Radioactive Beast: Howl to improve the health and movement speed of nearby teammates and use reveal nearby enemies on the minimap.
  • Contaminated Sludger: Block sightlines with a Smoke Grenade and attack with a close-ranged acid blast. You also explode when you die to take players with you.
  • Camouflaged Sneaker: Become briefly invisible and slow enemies down with an energy projectile. You can also charge at your enemies with an electrified leap.

Infected

It wouldn’t be The Haunting without Infected and the fan-favorite modes returns in Season 6. As always, one player will be chosen to start as the Infected and must use their melee weapon and Throwing Knives to take out the survivors.

With each kill, the fallen players join the side of the undead until the timer runs out or every player has been turned.

All new maps in MW3 Season 6

Players can look forward to the arrival of a new core 6v6 map called Drive Thru. This relatively small map is based around Funny’s Fried Fun, a clown-themed restaurant that’s even more unsettling than its gloomy surroundings.

An existing map is also getting the Halloween treatment, as Meat is being completely flooded and transformed into Mad Cow. While it might be grim to look at, the water opens up opportunities to dive under and sneak up on unsuspecting enemies.

On top of all that, Shipment is receiving five new variants at launch, each with a unique theme:

  • Arena Shipment (Set in an indoor training course)
  • Stay High (Uses the same bright-colored block as the Get High modes)
  • Bit-ment (Pixel art style)
  • Ghost Ship (A ritual ground covered in fog)
  • Sunny Shipment (Takes place in the daytime)

Events

There are four unique events scheduled for MW3 Season 6:

  • The Haunting (September 18 – October 16)
  • The Walking Dead: Road to Terminus (September 25 – October 2)
  • Trick ‘r Treat: Candy Hunt (October 2 – October 16)
  • MWIII Rewind (October 9 – October 16)

Horror crossovers coming in Season 6

To celebrate The Haunting, players can also expect a host of crossovers with popular horror franchises that bring iconic slashers to the game:

  • Michael Myers (Halloween): Season 6 Battle Pass unlock
  • Daryl Dixon (The Walking Dead): Store Bundle
  • Art the Clown (Terrifier): Store Bundle
