Treyarch says they’re more interested in updating current Blackout map versus adding new maps

One of the big questions some fans have been having with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is the possibility of new maps for the game’s Blackout mode. So far, there’s just the base map available in the mode, and Treyarch has plans to provide new updates for the map.

A fan asked Treyarch’s Design Director on Twitter if they were going to add new maps in the future. Vahn responded by saying that Treyarch is more focused on adding, updating, and changing the current map versus developing new maps for the mode. He added that these plans could change down the line, but for now, no new maps are expected for the mode.

“We are on record as saying that we are more interested in adding/subtracting and morphing this map then making new maps (at this time, subject to change, disclaimer).”

Vahn made this similar mention back in September during GameInformer’s extensive coverage of the Black Ops 4 Blackout mode that they have many plans to expand Blackout mode post launch with the current map and will evaluate the possibility of new maps in the future.

Thus far, map updates for Blackout has been very limited beyond the addition of the Blightfather event. Treyarch mentioned prior to launch that they have plans to update the mode, saying, “Blackout will continue to evolve after launch with regular map updates, expansions and new Blackout modes.”
