Warzone 2’s Ashika Island has received a blog post full of backstory, and popular YouTuber MrDalekJD has revealed how the new map directly connects to both Black Ops Cold War Zombies and Treyarch’s CoD 2024.

Thanks to the original Warzone, the Infinity Ward and Treyarch universes connected in a way they never had before. Modern Warfare, Black Ops, and Zombies are all part of the same universe now, and it appears that continues with Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

Not only can you find Black Ops villain Menendez‘s locket in DMZ, but it appears the upcoming Ashika Island map could directly tie in with both Cold War and Treyarch’s 2024 title.

Datamines which proved accurate for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 also revealed concept art for Treyarch’s Call of Duty 2024, revealing the devs are considering a 1990s setting with Black Hawk Down’s Battle of Mogadishu referenced.

Ashika Island is the Resurgence map coming to Warzone 2 and DMZ with Season 2 on February 15, and the devs gave us some backstory ahead of its release. The blog states that “development on Ashika Island was halted in the mid-1990s due to [[REDACTED]] and the sterling work of [[REDACTED]].”

As pointed out by MrDalekJD, Black Ops Cold War Zombies actually points us toward who this redacted person is. After finishing the Forsaken Easter egg in Cold War, you’ll see Dr. Peck visiting Japan and revealing that he’s heading to a cluster of islands in the Pacific Ocean.

You’ll be able to see where this is heading — Dr. Peck could have visited Ashika Island, which is confirmed to be in a “small archipelago located in an undisclosed location, somewhere in the APAC (Asia Pacific) region.”

This makes it likely that Dr. Peck is the one who performed the “sterling work,” and with CoD 2024 set to take place in the 1990s, we could see a Verdansk ’84-esque Ashika Island overhaul during the next Black Ops games’ reported two-year lifecycle.
