Warzone Perk’s secret ability gives players Dead Silence for free

Warzone players have been reporting audio issues since the Season 1 update went live, and it appears that a hidden Perk ability that grants Dead Silence could be contributing to the problem and making footsteps harder to hear.

The Warzone Season 1 update is live and players have been loving the new Urikstan map, the many MW3 weapons added to the arsenal, and the revamped movement. That being said, there are a handful of issues the community has run into since Urzikstan launched.

One of the biggest is footstep audio, which players have called virtually “non-existent” on the new map, leading to a number of frustrating deaths to enemies that managed to sneak up on them unheard.

Many felt that audio might be bugged in Warzone Season 1, but a hidden ability that has been found in one of the game’s Perks might have gone some way to explaining the problem.

Warzone pro ‘zSmit’ shared a clip on X (formally Twitter), which seems to reveal that Resolute “gives you Dead Silence” after being shot. The streamer was killed by a player running the Perk but noticed the Dead Silence icon appear on the screen during the replay.

“Look at the right side of the screen in the kill cam, I hit him with one bullet and immediately Dead Silence gets activated,” said zSmit.

The Resolute Perk’s in-game description reads: “When taking damage from gunfire, grants a short bonus to movement speed.” However, based on this clip, it also seems to mask the player’s footsteps by enabling Dead Silence.

Zsmit followed up by saying that this revelation could explain the audio issues players have faced in Warzone Season 1 so far, although he admitted that it probably isn’t the only cause.

“100% it’s terrible in general but there’s been a lot of times I hear someone and I get them one shot and they get away because audio just disappears and this explains it,” he added.

The devs haven’t responded to the footstep audio problems in Warzone yet, so it isn’t clear if this is a glitch that’s causing Dead Silence to take effect or an intended ability of the Resolute Perk.

Players will no doubt be hoping the audio issues are fixed sooner rather than later, especially with Ranked Play coming later down the line. In the meantime, be sure to check out the best audio settings you can run in Season 1.
