A viral MW2 Multiplayer mod for Modern Warfare Remastered was set to come out on August 16, but the project has been forced to shut down after receiving a cease and desist letter from Activision.

The team behind the project revealed that they’d be shutting down all operations on August 15, just one day before the highly-anticipated mod was set to arrive.

Clips of the mod began to go viral throughout the week of August 12, with players excited to jump back into one of the most beloved multiplayer experiences in the franchise. The hype surrounding the project caused such as stir that Modern Warfare Remastered became one of the top-selling games on Steam throughout the week.

Many were disappointed to see the project come to an end shortly after purchasing the title. To make matters worse, Modern Warfare Remastered was on sale leading up to H2M’s launch, which has raised a few eyebrows within the community.

Following the announcement of the cease and desist, players have taken to X to voice their frustration with Activision’s decision.

Even prominent content creators like TrueGameData chimed in: “Wait until they rake in the money from everyone buying remastered just for this, then shut em down. Classic.” With JGOD simply stating, “Activision doing Activision things…”

Given the timing of the announcement, many claimed that they’d be pursuing refunds for their recently purchased Steam copies of Modern Warfare Remastered.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll receive a refund, but Steam’s refund policy states that “if the request is made within the required return period, and, in the case of games, if the title has been played for less than two hours,” they will take it into consideration.

For more information on refunds, visit Steam’s help page.

Despite new titles each year, and new seasons every eight weeks, Call of Duty players are always drawn to nostalgia, especially veteran players who experienced the heydays of multiplayer. Many were excited to relive Modern Warfare 2, and that excitement has turned into disappointment.

Can you still play H2 MW2 Multiplayer Mod?

No, you cannot play the H2 MW2 Multiplayer Mod on PC.

The project from H2Multiplayer Modern Warfare Remastered was scheduled to come out on August 16, 2024, but has since shut down after receiving a cease and desist from Activision.

The mod was meant to give players another taste of the classic MW2 Multiplayer. It was going to include all the original maps, weapons, Killstreaks, and more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is just around the corner, and the game seems to take inspiration from classic Treyarch titles, so players won’t have to wait much longer for a fresh experience.
