Will Rebirth Island be removed when Area 99 hits Warzone? Rumor explained

Rebirth Island was the first Resurgence map to hit Warzone and despite more coming after it, it’s remained the most popular. However, if a rumor is to be believed, it might be removed again with Black Ops 6 Season 1.

The Call of Duty Next event unveiled the brand-new Area 99 Resurgence map that explores the origins of the classic Nuketown. It’ll arrive with the Season 1 update, but a rumor claims it might also mark Rebirth Island’s removal.

Will Rebirth Island be removed from Warzone again?

Currently, there’s no official indication that Rebirth Island will be removed from Warzone when Area 99 arrives.

However, a rumor comes from leaker Alaix, who said “it seems like” Black Ops 6 Season 1 will remove Rebirth Island and replace it with the new Area 99 map. They also claimed Fortune’s Keep is set to stay in the game.

It’s worth noting that this is only a rumor for now and doesn’t appear to be backed by the game files, but Alaix has been accurate in the past

It’s reasonable to assume that at least one Resurgence map will be temporarily removed to make way for Area 99 but we don’t know which one it’ll be. The devs have previously discussed how too many maps create huge download sizes for players, and Ashika Island was permanently removed not long after Rebirth Island returned in May 2024.

The most likely scenario is that Area 99 will be the only Resurgence map available when Season 1 launches, ensuring the Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads playlists are fully populated. Then, the other Resurgence maps will return later in Season 1, although one or two might be missing.

We should know more about Warzone’s plans nearer the time but first, the Black Ops 6 beta kicks off on August 30 ahead of the full launch on October 25.
