There are a ton of leaks indicating that 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 will bring back classic maps from 2009’s MW2, but a popular leaker asserts that their “trustworthy source” claims Infinity Ward plan to release these maps in a massive post-launch update.

With 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 arriving on October 28, nostalgia for the original Modern Warfare series is at an all-time high. While it’s confirmed that Warzone 2’s map brings back Highrise, leaks claim that several of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 maps will arrive in multiplayer.

These are all just rumors for now, but a new leak introduces the possibility that Infinity Ward will drop all of these maps in a massive post-launch update, perhaps as the content for the rumored Year 2.

It was reported all the way back in February that there won’t be a new CoD releasing in 2023, and Modern Warfare 2 will be supported for two years — a first for Call of Duty. Nothing is confirmed yet, but a new report might’ve given us insight into what Activision have planned for 2023.

According to popular leaker TheGhostOfHope, a “trustworthy source” told them that “Infinity Ward are planning to release all/almost all Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps together all at once sometime during the post-launch of Modern Warfare II (2022).”

Although just speculation, they said it’s “very likely this could be Year 2 content.” So, instead of a new Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2 would receive a massive update that brings several, if not all, maps from 2009’s game in 2023.

Of course, there’s far from any guarantee that this is true. It’s just an unverified rumor for now and internal plans change all the time, so we advise waiting for confirmation from Infinity Ward or Activision before getting too hyped. Plus, an Activision report implied there would be a new premium CoD in 2023.

We’ll know much more about Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer and Warzone 2 with the CoD Next event on September 15, so stay tuned.
