Cold War players call for major nerf to Strafe Run Scorestreak
The Strafe Run Scorestreak has been a big hit since its inclusion in CoD: Cold War, but a few players have complained about the screen-shaking it causes.
Black Ops Cold War has suffered a bit by not having too many solid mid-Scorestreak options. Most players tend to opt for a UAV to start and finish off with the VTOL or H.A.R.P. There isn’t one consistent middle option as Sentry Turrets and Attack Helicopters are too weak, and Napalm is inconsistent.
However, this all changed with Season 3 as Treyarch added the Strafe Run Scorestreak to Cold War. It delivers four separate, concentrated bombing runs across a fixed area and can rack up some serious kills. But players are keen for it to be nerfed, not because of its attacking potential, but because of the way it interferes with the player.
The beauty of the Strafe Run is that it’s achievable for players of any skill level, and feels like a genuine Call of Duty killstreak.
It perhaps overstays its welcome a tad, but it’s a lot of fun to see the kills and points racking up with every single pass. The only problem is that every pass shakes the screen uncontrollably, and can cause problems at the most inopportune moments.
Reddit user MDK1980 posted their thoughts to the Black Ops Cold War official Reddit saying that the Strafe Run needs a nerf: “Not the damage, but rather the fact that it makes the game literally unplayable while the screen shakes. There isn’t an earthquake when an A-10 BRRRRRRTTTTs the hell out of an area in real life, so why have that effect in-game?”
Their argument was slightly undermined when it began to compare the effects in Call of Duty games to real-life. One user said, “If you expect realism in COD then you’re playing the wrong series.”
However, the majority of commenters were unified in agreeing with MDK1980: “I find it’s worse on certain maps. Satellite, it attacks but only really shakes if you’re in the path. I’m wondering who QAs these things. It looks like their UAT / QA is one kid on a PlayStation and just says it’s “fun” so they publish it.”
Past-Adhesiveness691 said, “The second half of domination maps are like a seizure.” So there are definitely a few people who believe that Cold War could do with toning down the shaking.
