Is Counter-Strike 2 on macOS or Linux?
ValveValve stole the spotlight in late September 2023 with the release of the new Counter-Strike 2 and the bittersweet farewell of CSGO from the Steam Library. However, some players are still wondering if they can play it on their macOS or Linux devices.
Since Counter-Strike 2‘s launch, Valve’s new shooter has generated a lot of discussion due to constant complaints about game optimization, the hundreds of bugs the community encounters daily, and the performance of the new sub-tick servers.
Counter-Strike 2 has been available on Windows since the Closed Beta in March 2023, and it is expected to arrive on PlayStation and Xbox platforms, much like CSGO. However, Linux and Mac players are still wondering whether CS2 is available on their PCs.
Here’s everything you need to know about whether you can play CS2 on Linux and macOS.
Can you play Counter-Strike 2 on macOS or Linux?
CS2 is available on Linux but not for Mac players, the new Counter-Strike 2 cannot and will not be playable on macOS-based PCs. It’s also worth noting that CS2 doesn’t support 32-bit operating systems anymore.
As a result, while Linux players can enjoy the new features of Counter-Strike 2, Mac players will have to settle for continuing to play CSGO through the CSGO Legacy update introduced by Valve on Steam.
According to the Steam Support page, macOS players who continue to play CSGO will only be able to play on community servers and workshops because official matchmaking will not be available to the CSGO Legacy Version.
