Xbox joins PlayStation in offering a full refund for Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 has experienced a rocky release, culminating in both major console platforms, PlayStation and Xbox, allowing players to earn full refunds of their purchases.
It’s no secret that Cyberpunk 2077 has been messy since its release. On all platforms, players are experiencing regular bugs that can break immersion and even break the game.
Console players have been getting the worst of it – especially those who have the last-gen machines like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. These consoles are less than a month outdated but can barely run Cyberpunk in its current state.
The word “unplayable” gets thrown around a lot in the gaming world, but Cyberpunk has earned this term with its console performance.
CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, received harsh criticism for failing to provide any console review copies before the game launched, leaving these players unaware of the mess they were about to attempt to play. They later apologized for this, but their words largely fell on deaf ears.
In an act of good faith, Sony was the first console company to offer its customers a full refund of their Cyberpunk 2077 purchase.
Later in the day, following Sony’s announcement, Microsoft stated that they would be taking the same course of action; refunding anyone who bought Cyberpunk on their digital store.
CDPR has been in full damage-control since Cyberpunk 2077 was released. The base game is nothing short of incredible, but no one is talking about the gameplay in the bug-ridden landscape that is Cyberpunk on consoles.
Cyberpunk will, undoubtedly, get its act together in the coming months with future patches and updates.
For now, though, console players seem to be content to refund their game while they wait for these improvements – something that should have happened long before the game’s December 10 release.
