Destiny 2 players call out “crazy” price of returning four-year-old armor set
BungieMicrotransaction has always been a controversial topic in Destiny 2, and the “ridiculous” cost of returning seasonal armor has once again stirred another discussion in the community about Bungie’s pricing.
Just in the past few months, Destiny 2 has been criticized multiple times for their “absurd” pricing of microtransactions. You’ll need to cough up $60 if you’re to buy the recent The Witcher crossover armor for all three classes in Destiny 2.
Following the backlash for the crossover pricing, Bungie then went on to add a “pay-to-win” Starter Pack priced at $15, which they had to delist following another huge outcry from the community.
Now, Bungie is introducing Seasonal Armor from previous seasons that is no longer accessible, but it is locked behind a paywall, and players are calling out its unreasonable pricing.
The ornaments in question are the ones from Season of the Undying, and they’ll cost you 1,500 Silver, which is roughly $15, for a single class. There are no other ways to acquire Silver other than by spending money. For acquiring ornaments, the only other way without spending money is through the Bright Dust shop, but it hasn’t seen a single armor release in the past couple of seasons.
That’s not all, if you’re to buy all of the Season of the Undying items added, armor ornaments, emote, finisher, and weapon ornament, it’ll cost you roughly $70 in total.
On X (formerly Twitter), players called out the pricing and said it should be available in the Bright Dust shop, “Glad I got them back then! Should have a way to purchase this very old reissued gear by bright dust. Just saying.” Another user said, “So an old set of armor costs more than a season it came out with?”
Some asked for Bungie to revise the pricing, “They are insanely overpricing this stuff. 1000 Should be a bundle for all 3 sets. 400 per individual set.”
Elsewhere on Reddit, user ‘supremed1ngus’ shared a post calling out the pricing, and the reception was the same here as well. A player wrote, “And it’s only one set, as opposed to all three if you had bought the season pass back then. Absolutely and mind-blowingly ridiculous that anyone would be ok with this.” Another user called it “a blatant scam” and claimed that “it’s indefensible.”
Some, meanwhile, weren’t all too fussed and said, “Just don’t buy it.” Others called out those defending it by saying, “Destiny fans are so funny bro ‘don’t buy it’ like you are the reason this games s**t”
Bungie hasn’t addressed any concerns, and considering the recent inner turmoil and their financial trouble, it’ll likely continue as is.
