Destiny 2 players claim upcoming Osteo Striga nerf could make weapon useless
BungieDestiny 2 players are split about Bungie’s decision to nerf the popular exotic SMG Osteo Striga. But will this change be bad for the game’s meta? Here’s what players and a renowned member of the community think about it.
Destiny 2 has seen a of heat lately, with the announcement of the delay of The Final Shape expansion and news about several layoffs in Bungie. But players are still playing the game and are mostly concerned about upcoming fixes, tweaks, and, above all, nerfs.
And now, Guardians are struggling to make peace with a highly requested nerf for the Osteo Striga Exotic SMG. The Osteo was launched alongside The Witch Queen expansion and was the first craftable Exotic weapon in the game.
Ever since, it has become a staple part of several PvP/PvE kits, but not all players are happy with its powerful features. So, the news about an upcoming nerf on this powerful SMG has created a rift among Destiny 2 players.
What Destiny 2 players think about the Osteo Striga nerf
Since Osteo Striga is getting a nerf no matter what Destiny 2 players think about it, it would be good to, at least, hear why this weapon is so game-breaking and what players think about the nerf itself.
The streamer ‘Aztecross’ explains it quite profoundly in one of their latest videos. One of the reasons for this nerf to be implemented is, of course, to balance the PvP meta of the game. Osteo Striga has been considered as ‘broken’ since its release, mainly due to its primary perk called ‘Screaming Swarm’ that turns its projectiles into sentient tracking bullets.
This perk by itself makes Osteo Striga the weapon with better target acquisition in the whole game, and as a product of that feature, broken in PvP at close range. That’s why most PvP-focused players complain about its usage in Destiny 2’s many PvP modes, but especially in Trials of Osiris.
One of the players reacting to Aztecross’ video explained: “Osteo has been glued to my Hunter since I got it early in Witch Queen, and it’s my highest-leveled and highest-kill weapon (aside from my old Gnawing Hunger). As much as I love it I will admit it’s incredibly strong and is overdue for toning down, but given how powerful we can be in any activity and this really is for the best. Gun will still be a monster on the other side of this tweak.”
So, PvP players might be happy about the upcoming changes for Osteo Striga, but what about PvE players? The weapon’s Catalyst is what makes it stronger and ideal for taking down swarms of rank-and-file foes, so it is no wonder Destiny 2 PvE players are against this nerf.
An unhappy Destiny 2 PvE player commented: “Why does everything fun for PVE always get nerfed? They’re so willing to nerf the fun things but neglect the blatantly broken stuff that people dislike. Ex: champions mechanic, champion mods not stunning properly, etc.”
So, as unhappy as these Destiny 2 players sound, it will take some time for Bungie to nail the proper changes that the game needs, and balance tweaking and nerfs are always part of said changes. We will need to wait and see if these are for the better or for worse.
In the meantime, you can learn when season 22 ends, and also, you should know that Bungie is bringing a highly requested Vault Feature during season 23.
