Destiny 2 players divided over The Witcher 3 crossover: “Please focus on the game”
BungieDestiny 2 is bringing three new armors themed after CD Projekt Red’s celebrated RPG, The Witcher 3. Players, however, think that this isn’t the perfect time given the recent controversies.
On November 21, Bungie announced a crossover between Destiny 2 and The Witcher franchise, bringing in three new armor sets, one for each class. This is similar to previous PlayStation and Assassin’s Creed crossovers.
Based on previous crossovers, these sets will likely be priced at $20 each, and players could have to cough up $60 if they need one for every class. Plenty of players have expressed that while they find the armor “cool,” this is not what Destiny 2 currently needs, as the game just recorded the lowest-ever player count in its history.
The crossover armor in Destiny 2 is said to be available in Season 23, Season of the Wish. There has been plenty of controversy surrounding Bungie’s MMO shooter as we head into the new season.
In August, the game director made an apology on X (formerly Twitter), addressing major complaints, including a lack of earnable armor. Later in October, Bungie was affected by massive layoffs, and The Final Shape DLC was allegedly delayed.
With the community already frustrated with the focus on paywalled armor rather than earnable ones, fans think this crossover isn’t what the devs should be concentrating on.
A user wrote on X, “PLEASE FOCUS ON THE GAME BUNGIE PLS. This ain’t upping player count.” Others hoped that it’ll eventually find its way to Bright Dust store to make it earnable without spending money, “Looks awesome! (Too bad they’ll be 20 USD exclusives on the Eververse).”
Some remarked on the game’s current state, saying, “They should stop collabing with all these crossovers and start collabing with in game loot and incentive.”
The crossover had many players excited as well, seeing how “nice” these sets look. A user replied to the official announcement saying, “Omg this looks fire definitely need to get these skins.”
Elsewhere on Reddit, the reception was the same, a user wrote, “Bungie out here pretending nothing happened and zero things are wrong,” while another added, “More eververse s**t is just what we needed for sure.”
It remains to be if Bungie will add it to the Bright Dust store. For more on Destiny 2, check out all The Final Shape DLC details as well as what Banshee-44 is selling today.
