Bungie have confirmed that an upcoming Destiny 2 update will increase the Glimmer cap for all players, helping players stock up on the valuable resource.

Glimmer is set to become the primary currency in Destiny 2. With the developers retiring Legendary Shards soon, players will need to use Glimmer for every single purchase and upgrade in the game.

Ever since the developers had announced the Legendary Shard retirement, players were concerned about the Glimmer cap in the game. Currently, players can hold only 250,000 Glimmer.

However, after the 7.3.4 update that’s set to go live on January 30, this cap will be increased to 500,000. The Glimmer sources or the drop rates won’t be affected by this change, but players will able to carry twice as much.

Bungie revealed this change in their blog post on January 18. Players have been requesting an increased Glimmer cap for a while now, as they feel there aren’t enough areas in Destiny 2 for players to spend their Glimmer.

Glimmer has become an important currency in the game, especially after the developers started vaulting the other currencies including the planetary materials. The amount of the currency required to purchase items in the game has also been increased.

In such a scenario, having a 250,000 cap causes players to head toward farming runs more frequently. So, increasing the Glimmer cap to 500,000 is an essential quality-of-life update that the developers will be implementing in the upcoming patch in Destiny 2.

Following the Glimmer cap increase, players could also start using the Rainmaker consumable. This consumable increases Glimmer drop rates during activities, but since players hit their cap pretty easily, it’s barely used.

Just like the character appearance customization option, the increased Glimmer cap was also something that the Destiny 2 community had been requesting for a while now. With The Final Shape set to release on June 4, 2024, these quality-of-life changes could drastically improve player experience.
