Diablo 4 Infernal Horde preview

Diablo 4 Season 5 introduces a new endgame activity called Infernal Hordes, where players can test their builds and defeat waves of demons to gain the Spoils of Hell.

This take on a rogue-lite mode can only be faced after venturing into the Realm of Hatred. If you’re wondering how to do so, here’s everything you’ll need to complete before facing them in Diablo 4.

How to unlock Infernal Hordes mode

To unlock the Infernal Hordes mode, you’ll need to complete the “Eyes of the Enemy” quest in Diablo 4. This questline is available once you’ve completed the Cathedral of Light Capstone dungeon and are in World Tier 3.

To start this quest, you need to make your way to Zarbinzet, which also happens to be the area where you’ll get the starting quest for the season. It’s worth noting that the “Eyes of the Enemy” quest is also available in the Eternal Realm because this new mode is available across both realms.

Once you’ve completed this quest, you’ll be given another one called “To the Edge of the Abyss.” Here, you will face the Fell Council for the first time. Once you’ve defeated them, you’ll receive your first Infernal Hordes Compass.

Taking on the Fell Priests with the wrong Infernal Offers can be really difficult.

You can then use the Infernal Hordes Compass to launch the Infernal Hordes, just like how you use Nightmare Sigils to launch the Nightmare Dungeons.

The item will be located in your Consumables tab, like the other Sigils, Potions, and Summoning Materials. To use it, you just need to interact with it. Once you’ve done that, you can teleport into the activity from the map screen or set a marker there and then make your way to the entrance on foot.

How does Infernal Compass work?

The Infernal Compass is an item that drops at Tiers I-III in Diablo 4 and can be used to enter the Realm of Hatred. It can be farmed from The Pit, Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and Whisper Caches and crafted at the Occultist with Sigil Powder and Forgotten Souls.

You can also use them to select the difficulty of your Infernal Horde run. There are eight Tiers of Infernal Compasses, which scale with difficulty and World Tier. Each Tier increases the number of waves, starting at five for Tiers I-III and increasing until a maximum of 10 waves with a Tier VIII Infernal Compass.

You can also earn Abyssal Scrolls to upgrade your Infernal Compass, which will allow you to increase its level to Tier VIII without returning to town. Keep in mind that changing Tiers will increase the starting difficulty demons and the amount of rewards while decreasing your number of revives.

You can get Infernal Compasses after defeating endgame bosses, as Whisper bounties, and more.

Infernal Compasses can be used at the following levels and World Tiers:

  • Tier I
    • Available at World Tier III
  • Tier II
    • Available at World Tier IV
    • Includes Bonus Affixes, which increase crafting materials and Legendary and Unique Drop rates.
  • Tier III and above
    • Available at Level 100
    • Includes Bonus Affixes
    • Includes Spoil of Greater Equipment

It’s also worth noting that Infernal Compasses of Tier IV and above drop from high-level Nightmare Dungeons and from The Pit.

What are Infernal Offers in Diablo 4?

Infernal Offers are the choice of three different Boons & Banes given to you at the end of each 60-second wave. These will modify the difficulty of your run and are also completely stackable.

Keep in mind, these won’t make the experience easy as Infernal Offers are there to make the activity more difficult. However, these temptations will make the runs much more rewarding as you will get increased Burning Aether and better drops.

The entire stack will stay active during your showdown against the Fell Council, so be careful when choosing your Boons & Banes.

Infernal Hordes rewards

In Diablo 4 Season 5, you can earn Burning Aether as a reward after slaying Aether Fiends and Aether Lords or by destroying Soulspires and Aetheric Masses. Getting this material will allow you to unlock powerful new weapons and the Spoils of Hell.

Spoils of Hell cost 20 Aether, but if you have gathered 60 Aether, you can unlock the Spoils of Greater Equipment, which guarantees an item with a Greater Affix.

There are four different Spoils of Hell available after completing an Infernal Hordes run:

  • Spoils of Equipment
  • Spoils of Materials
  • Spoils of Gold
  • Spoils of Greater Equipment
    • This Spoil of Hell guarantees an item with a Greater Affix.

Diablo 4 Infernal Hordes explained

The Infernal Hordes are a wave-like activity in Diablo 4 Season 5, in which players defeat endless hordes of Hell’s Legions in the Realm of Hatred. Similar to Helltides, it is an endgame activity in which you’ll have to exterminate evil creatures to win Burning Aether.

Based on the tier of the Infernal Compass you’ve used, you’ll have to survive waves of enemies that last 90 seconds each. After each wave, you’ll get to choose between three Infernal Offers.

After a set number of waves, you will advance to the Well of Hatred to battle the Fell Council. This group has five members, each with a unique ability. You’ll have to defeat three members every time you face them, who are selected at random. After vanquishing them, you’ll spend your Burning Aether on the Spoils of Hell.

You have limited revives during this activity, and once they have all been exhausted, you will be removed from the Infernal Hordes and lose all your Burning Aethers.
