Diablo 4 Seasonal characters explained
Blizzard EntertainmentWhenever a new season begins in Diablo 4, you’ll have to create a new Seasonal character to get access to its questline.
This will divide your game into the Eternal and Seasonal Realm, which can get confusing at the beginning of each season.
Here’s what you need to know about Seasonal characters before you start Diablo 4 Season 5.
What are Seasonal characters in Diablo 4?
Seasonal characters are the new Wanderers that you need to create to access the Seasonal Realm in Diablo 4. Once you enter the Character Creation screen, you need to choose which Realm you want to place your character in.
Seasonal Characters are only available for the season they’re created. After a season ends, they get moved to the Eternal Realm with the rest of the Wanderers you’ve played with before.
Remember that your new character won’t be related in any form to the ones you’ve played before, so you are free to experiment with new classes, builds, and abilities.
Eternal Realm & Seasonal Realm in Season 5
The Eternal Realm and Seasonal Realm are two different universes where Diablo 4 stores your past characters. To play Season 5 in Diablo 4, you must create a new character in the Seasonal Realm to access the new storyline and season-specific mechanics.
Once the season ends, every Wanderer is sent to the Eternal Realm, where players can go through the base game experience.
What carries over to Seasonal characters in Diablo 4?
Here’s everything that will be carried over into a new Diablo 4 Season with an Eternal or previous Seasonal Realm character:
- Renown rewards
- Paragon Points
- Skill Points
- Potion Charges
- Obol capacity upgrades
- Map progress
- Altars of Lilith
If you don’t want to play the whole campaign when creating a Seasonal character, you can easily skip it to start directly from the beginning of the current season’s questline.
Some mechanics that were unlocked during the main Diablo 4 storyline will be carried over throughout Seasons, such as previously discovered Altars of Lilith, as well as areas of the map and their corresponding Renown.
If you’ve skipped the main campaign, you can still get a mount once you’ve reached Level 25 and completed the “Donan’s Favors” priority quest.
Every item added during seasons will also transfer back to the player’s permanent Stash once the season has finished.
How to transfer progress & items in Season 5
To transfer your progress to your Seasonal character in Diablo 4 Season 5, all you need to do is log in with the Eternal character you’ve progressed the most with, before creating a new character in the Seasonal Realm.
If you fail to do that, you will have to explore the map again to discover all the locations and find out all the Altars of Lilith.
Diablo 4 Season 5 has introduced a complete rework of Unique Items and Legendary Aspects. You’ll also get a new set of quests to discover this season’s mechanics, and two rogue-like endgame modes to put your build to the test.
