What are Strongholds in Diablo 4?
Strongholds in Diablo 4 are small villages or compounds with an increased demonic presence. To liberate a Stronghold, you need to defeat lesser enemies and complete three mini-objectives to draw out the boss.
After you’ve defeated the boss, you’ll need to light the Wanderer’s Shrine to reclaim the Stronghold and unlock the waypoint to it. Defeating the boss will also reward you with gear based on your World Tier.
There are 15 Strongholds in total, with each Diablo 4 region having three. They’re as follows:
Dry Steppes Stronghold locations in Diablo 4
- The Onyx Watchtower: To clear out this Stronghold, destroy bandit rations, then defeat the minibosses before engaging the final boss.
- Ruins of Qara-Yisu: This area is afflicted by an ancient curse that took over its population. Most enemies are weak, but they’ll swarm any player going through the Stronghold. When you’re here, destroy the Infernal Spires to trigger the boss fight.
- Temple of Rot: This Stronghold has a lot of enemies including the boss which deal poison damage, making it one of the most annoying Strongholds in Diablo 4.
Fractured Peaks Stronghold locations in Diablo 4
- Nostrava: This Stronghold is right above Nevesk, and when cleared, it features multiple vendors that are commonly seen in other major towns and villages.
- Kor Dragan: Kor Dragan is the only vampire-themed Stronghold in Diablo 4, but they’ll always be lower than or equal to your current level.
- Malnok: The enemies in this Stronghold will be a few levels above you, so make sure you carry a lot of healing potions before heading into the area, especially before the boss fight.
Hawezar Stronghold locations in Diablo 4
- Crusader’s Monument: To complete this Stronghold, you will have to face three bosses at the same time.
- Eriman’s Pyre: The entire Stronghold in Diablo 4 is filled with enemies that are capable of dealing fire damage. In case your resistance to fire is low, pop an Elixir of Fire Resistance before heading into this Stronghold.
- Vyersez: It can be slightly tricky to find this Stronghold in Hawezar because of its location. When you do, keep a few health potions handy because the enemies here deal a lot of AoE damage.
Kehjistan Stronghold locations in Diablo 4
- Altar of Ruin: This Stronghold is also tricky to find, so to get to it easily, follow the western coastline, and you’ll find it easily.
- Alcarnus: Although the boss fight isn’t that difficult for this Stronghold, completing the short quests before the boss fight can be annoying because of how tedious they are.
- Omath’s Redoubt: Omath’s Redoubt is close to Ked Bardu. So if you’re having a tough time finding this area, all you need to do is travel east from the city and you’ll find it.
Scosglen Stronghold locations in Diablo 4
- Moordaine Lodge: Moordaine Lodge is the only Stronghold where you will encounter a Druid that can shapeshift. There are three stages to the fight, and the boss is very tanky, so be on your guard.
- Tur Dulra: Tur Dulra used to be a Druidic College, and can be accessed through a side-quest, or as the main Druid class questline. Make sure you get to level 25 at least, before you attempt to complete this Stronghold in Diablo 4.
- Hope’s Light: Getting to this Stronghold requires you to push through a maze in the game, but once you reach it, the enemies aren’t that strong and can be easily dealt with.
Hardest Strongholds in Diablo 4
Out of the 15 Strongholds in Diablo 4, Omath’s Redoubt and Temple of Rot continue to be two of the hardest ones in the game. Both these bosses are quite tanky and have a range of attacks at their disposal. Approaching these two Strongholds without an appropriate build is not advised.
Although it has a high-level requirement in the game, Malnok is by far the easiest Stronghold in Diablo 4 Season 3.
Tips on how to clear a Stronghold easily
The following pointers can help you make your way through these Strongholds without much difficulty:
- While these can be completed solo, it’s best to go in with a party of two or more players. It doesn’t hurt to have someone watch your back, especially during the boss fights.
- Always have skills that make you “Unstoppable” handy. Most of these bosses and their minions can stun you, so these skills will help you reposition easily.
- Have a functional loadout while approaching a Stronghold in Diablo 4. You don’t have to max out every stat, but getting the skills to synergize with each other is important.
Can you reset Strongholds?
Unfortunately, you cannot reset Strongholds in Diablo 4. Once you complete them on one character, you cannot do them again. The only way you can reattempt these Strongholds is by making a new character.
However, if you’ve joined a party where the leader hasn’t completed them yet, you will be able to clear them once again with them.
