In Diablo 4 Season 4, you will need Tempering Manuals to add some additional affixes to your Gear at the Blacksmith. Thanks to the new crafting system, you now have much more freedom when it comes to creating your build in the game.

All Tempering Recipe rarities and how to get them in Diablo 4
You will find different Tempering Manuals in Diablo 4 Season 4 in three possible rarities, namely:
- Magic
- Rare
- Legendary
You will come across Magic and Rare Tempering Manuals across all World Tiers, and their drop rates are pretty high. However, when it comes to Legendary Tempering Manuals, you have a higher chance of finding them in World Tier 3 and above.
You may come across Legendary Tempering Manuals in World Tier 2 as well, but the drop rates are extremely low. In World Tier 3 and above, activities like Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, and Legion Events are more likely to drop these Manuals for you when you complete them.
The higher the rarity of the Tempering Manual in Diablo 4, the better the stats they have to offer.
How to use a Tempering Manual in Diablo 4
To use a Tempering Manual in Diablo 4, you need to visit the Blacksmith first. When you’re there, you need to:
- Navigate to the tab that says “Tempering” after you’ve interacted with the Blacksmith.
- Under the Tempering Tab, select the item that you want to upgrade, and then select the Recipe that you want to use from the six options given below.
- Once you’ve made your choice, select the “Temper Item” box and your newly upgraded item will be ready.
It’s worth noting that, once you’ve learned a Tempering Recipe in Diablo 4, it’s available to you permanently. You will find all of them under the “Tempering Recipes” option in the Codex of Power.
