Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred missed easy opportunity to bring back D2’s best class
Blizzard EntertainmentDiablo 4: Vessel of Hatred could have been the perfect expansion for the game if the devs brought back the most requested class from D2.
Diablo 4‘s upcoming expansion, Vessel of Hatred, will be the game’s biggest DLC yet and will act as a continuation of the main story campaign. Alongside new game modes, the devs also included a new class called Spiritborn in the game, dropping on October 8 with the DLC.
Although Spiritborn is in no way a bad class, Blizzard missed the opportunity of a lifetime to include a fan-favorite, the Paladin. Requests for it to appear in Diablo 4 have been buzzing around social media for quite some time now.
The Paladin is by far the most requested class in Diablo 4 after its impressive stint in Diablo 2. But, why is this the best time to introduce the class back? It’s because Vessel of Hatred is based in Nahantu, one of the areas in Diablo 2, with Kurast being a town of interest in the location.
As Diablo 4 is heading back into the outskirts of Kehistan to Nahantu, Diablo 2’s Paladin class would have been the perfect icing on the cake. Considering Mephisto is also set to be the prime antagonist of the expansion, just like in D2, it seems like everything would have lined up nicely.
However, Blizzard decided to introduce the Spiritborn instead, a completely new class to the franchise. It’s quite innovative to bring an entirely new class to the massive franchise, but not bringing the Paladin back was certainly a missed opportunity.
That said, the expansion is still four months away, so players should not wipe the possibility of another class away just yet, although it seems unlikely that we will get a Paladin alongside the Spiritborn in Vessel of Hatred.
