Diablo 4’s devs have temporarily nerfed one of Season 5’s new Unique Weapons after it caused an XP glitch that allowed players to get millions of free XP.

Within a few hours of launch, players randomly started getting millions of free XP after killing certain enemies, making them jump 20-30 levels straightaway. Of course, the devs were aware of the chaos as they identified the problem quickly.

The glitch was caused by The Umbracrux, a Unique Dagger introduced in Season 5 that creates an attackable Shade Totem capable of transferring damage to all nearby enemies at 20% effectiveness.

Adam Fletcher, Blizzard’s Global Community Development Director, officially addressed this issue in the Diablo 4 forums on August 7 and assured players that a fix is already in development.

“The team was made aware of an issue where players were able to obtain a significant amount of experience while killing certain bosses with ‘The Umbracrux’ Unique equipped,” said Fletcher.

“We will be disabling the unique power for this weapon while we work on a fix for this. This means players will no longer be able to spawn a Shade Totem with this weapon,” he continued.

While he announced that the Unique effect is temporarily disabled in Season 5, he also assured players that they can still find and equip the weapon. They won’t be able to take advantage of the skill anymore but can keep it in their stash until a fix is released.

There have been a fair few bugs and glitches since Diablo 4 Season 5 started, but some have been quite helpful for players, like the carried-over Temper Manuals. While Blizzard decided to let that one slide, they didn’t hold back against the XP glitch.
