What is PTR in Diablo 4? Public Test Realm explained
BlizzardDiablo 4 Public Test Realm is one of the most acclaimed features introduced before Season 4, and was key for every system overhauled during Season of Loot Reborn.
After its success, Blizzard announced a new PTR coming to the game, where users will get to face the Infernal Hordes and try out every new feature from Season 5 before their full release.
What is the Public Test Realm
Just like the Seasonal Realm and the Eternal Realm, the Public Test Realm is a different realm altogether in Diablo 4. Here you’ll be able to use your pre-existing characters to try out some features that are set to make it to the game.
It’s worth noting that features that are being tested in the PTR may or may not make it to the game in the future depending upon how the community reacts to it.
The benefits of a PTR are immense because it lets the community test out the upcoming changes to the game. It also allows the developers to tweak the modifications based on the feedback that they receive from the community.

How to play Diablo 4 PTR
Blizzard announced that players testing Season 5 will get different features that will allow them to fairly try everything new in Diablo 4. For this effect, every PTR account will carry over Campaign Completion progress, Mounts, Skill Points, Fog of War, and Altar of Lilith stat bonuses.
As many of the changes apply to the endgame, Diablo 4 will offer these features to PTR players:
- Instantly boost your character to Level 100.
- Upon entering the PTR and arriving at Zarbinzet, there will be an NPC named ‘PTR boost’. They will only have one dialogue option, which is ‘Boost me to level 100.’
- Upon boosting, you will receive:
- All New Legendaries
- 1 new Unique for each Class
- 100 million gold
- 1,000 Obols
- Two random sets of Ancestral gear at item power 920
- Upgraded Potions
- Fully unlocked Paragon Glyphs
- Up to 10 Tempering Manuals (class specific)
- Base amount of all consumable materials
- Does not include materials for resources specifically earned for Masterworking, Scattered Prisms and Resplendent Sparks.
- Materials to enter the Pit and Nightmare Dungeons are granted.
- Completed Class system mechanics
- Note: This boost can be repeated with new characters on the PTR, and you can trade between characters as needed.
- Fog of War will be completely cleared.
What to expect from the Diablo 4 Public Test Realm?
The basic idea of the Public Test Realm in Diablo 4 is to allow you to try out features that are scheduled to arrive in the game.
While you will not be able to try out campaigns or seasonal content, you will be able to test out new itemization features and mechanics that the developers intend to release.
It’s also important to note that you will most likely be able to take your characters from the Eternal Realm into the PTR, but whatever changes you make to them within the PTR won’t carry over to the main game.
Season 5 The Eyes of the Enemy promises a long list of new Unique Items and Legendary Aspects. However, players are worried that the Sorcerer class can be overlooked again, and are also begging Blizzard for some new methods of tempering to avoid bricking items.
