BlizzardAs players get their hands on Diablo 4 early, many are wondering who is Lorath Nahr. Whether you played previous Diablo games or are starting with Diablo 4, here’s what you need to know about Lorath Nahr.
The Diablo franchise, with its intricate and dark narrative, has played host to a number of intriguing characters over the years, but one character stands out in Diablo 4 for his heightened significance – Lorath Nahr.
Those familiar with Diablo 3 might remember Lorath as the Horadrim scholar who watched in horror as Malthael, the Angel of Death, obliterated his comrades. But nine years have passed since then, and we wouldn’t blame you if the specifics of Lorath’s character have gotten a bit fuzzy. Thus, we’re here to revive your Diablo memories or prepare you for your first encounter with Lorath in Diablo 4.
Who is Lorath Nahr in Diablo?
Lorath Nahr’s introduction in Diablo 3 pegged him as one of the remaining members of the Horadrim, an esteemed order known for its erudite scholars who dedicated their lives to the battle against the Prime Evils.
Towards the climax of Diablo 3, Lorath is entrusted with the mission of enlightening the player about the lore and the backstory that surround Malthael, the game’s ultimate adversary. His character primarily functions as a supportive NPC, delivering bites of lore and necessary exposition throughout the game.
When Deckard Cain, the player’s mentor since Diablo 1, tragically passes away, Lorath steps in to fill the void left behind. Even though he was a peripheral character in Diablo 3, Lorath finds himself at the heart of Diablo 4’s narrative.
Lorath Nahr in Diablo 4 explained
Fast-forward 50 years from the events of Diablo 3 to Diablo 4, and we find an aged Lorath Nahr transitioning into the role of the Diablo universe’s sagacious mentor, once held by the iconic Deckard Cain. As one of the few surviving Horadrim, Lorath’s life takes a turn for the reclusive, and he develops a penchant for alcohol.
Living in a world devoid of demons, his purpose of banishing demons back to the depths of Hell seems redundant. His life takes an aimless drift until a new demon horde threatens Sanctuary. This looming peril calls Lorath back to duty, pushing him to shun his alcoholic tendencies and revert to his demon-hunting prowess, all in the pursuit of stopping Lilith and restoring equilibrium.
The question, however, that keeps us on the edge is whether Lorath can be deemed reliable in these precarious times. And how far will Lorath stretch himself to ensure the safety of Sanctuary? There are plenty of mysteries yet to be solved in the haunting and exciting world of Diablo 4.
