Warner Bros. GamesHogwarts Legacy, after smashing multiple records on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation, is now available for Nintendo Switch users around the world. To know if you can play with friends and switch platforms, here’s everything to know about multiplayer, co-op, and cross-progression in Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy is easily one of 2023’s biggest games and since the initial launch on new-gen consoles and PC in February 2023, it is now available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch as well.
From a wide range of spells and quests to capturable beasts and a massive open world, Hogwarts Legacy is loaded with content for Harry Potter as well as RPG fans. On the flip side, some players want to enjoy the game alongside their friends for which features like multiplayer, co-op, crossplay, and cross-progression are staple.
Here’s everything you need to know about Hogwarts Legacy multiplayer, co-op, and crossplay options.

Is there multiplayer in Hogwarts Legacy?
It’s bad news for anyone looking to play with friends, Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t feature any multiplayer features, as confirmed by the game’s FAQ page.
There has also been no word of whether or not PvP or co-op options will arrive later down the line because Hogwarts Legacy has been designed by Avalanche Software as a single-player experience, but there are a couple of features that could scratch a similar itch.
Although you can’t team up with another real player, there are a number of AI companions that can join you on your journey. These tend to be other Hogwarts students that are encountered during quests, including Sebastian Sallow, Natsai Onai, and Poppy Sweeting.
Then, for something a little more competitive, there’s the Dark Arts Battle Arena. This is where players can test their skills against some incredibly powerful AI enemies, making up for the lack of one-on-one fights against other players. The only minor caveat is that this is an exclusive feature for certain editions of the game.
Is Hogwarts Legacy cross-platform?
Once again, it’s a disappointment for Hogwarts Legacy fans who are looking for universal progression and unity with other consoles, as the game has no cross-progression or crossplay.
Hogwarts Legacy is geared around being a purely solo-based experience, therefore there is no reason for cross-platform integration and similar services.
Do you need the internet to Play Hogwarts Legacy?
The developers confirmed on the FAQ page that Hogwarts Legacy needs an internet connection to download the Day 1 patch. This applies to both the physical and digital copies of the title.
However, you don’t need an internet connection to play the game after the Day 1 patch has been downloaded. This is because Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t feature multiplayer or online co-op.
While the lack of true multiplayer support might be disappointing for some, there are plenty of other magical activities to enjoy. For more on Hogwarts Legacy, check out these guides as well:
