All new weapon types in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdree
FromSoftwareElden Ring Shadow of the Erdree is a massive DLC with grueling new bosses and even new weapon types for you to find.
The base game offers different weapons ranging from Greatswords to Axes and more, and Shadow of the Erdtree has only added more to the mix. With this in mind, here are the new weapon types you can find.
New weapon types
- Light Greatsword
- Backhand Blade
- Great Katana
- Throwing Blades
- Hand-to-Hand Arts
- Thrusting Shield
- Beast Claw
- Perfume Bottle
Light Greatswords
Light Greatswords provide a nice middle ground between regular Greatswords and Straightswords, giving you the maneuverability of the latter and damage output that is closer to the former. Naturally, they are also lighter than standard Greatswords, plus their moveset feels far more fluid in comparison.
Here are all the Light Greatswords in the DLC, where to find them, and a breakdown of their base stats –
- Milady – Loot from a chest at the top of a tower in Castle Ensis
- Leda’s Sword – Defeat Needle Knight Leda
- Rellana’s Twin Blades – Defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, and use her Remembrance
Weapon | Physical Damage | Magic Damage | Fire Damage | Lightning Damage | Holy Damage | Critical Damage | Boost | Scaling | Ash of War |

Backhand Blades
Backhand Blades are exactly what they sound like. They’re blades held in reverse from the grip that can be used for slashing attacks. Some Reverse-hand Swords can also be two-handed and split into twin swords. These weapons come with really quick combos and are great for building up status effects.
Here’s where you can find them in the game –
- Backhand Blade – Can be looted from an altar placed north of the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace
- Smithscript Cirque – Found inside the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past in the Scadu Atlus region
- Curseblade’s Cirque – Dropped by Curseblade enemies

Great Katanas
Great Katanas have been described as “fairly classic large Japanese katanas” by game director Hidetaka Miyazaki and unsurprisingly, they’re precisely that. These Katanas are significantly larger than the ones found in the base game, and they pack quite a wallop in terms of damage. Due to their size, attacks are slower and you lose out on the swiftness regular Katanas like the Uchigatana provide.
That said, all three Great Katanas come with unique Ash of War skills and their move sets make them great picks for PvP battles.
- Great Katana – Found near the lake outside Belurat, Tower Settlement
- Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana – Defeat Ancient Dragon-Man inside Dragon’s Pit
- Rakshasa’s Great Katana – Defeat Rakshasa in Eastern Nameless Mausoleum
Weapon | Physical Damage | Magic Damage | Fire Damage | Lightning Damage | Holy Damage | Critical Damage | Boost | Scaling | Ash of War |

Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana | 152 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 100 | 37 | STR- D DEX- D | Dragonwound Slash |
Rakshasa’s Great Katana | 155 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 100 | 35 | STR- E DEX- C | Weed Cutter |
Throwing Blades
Throwing Blades are small knives you can wield in both hands to hurl at your enemies. They have a distinct moveset, allowing you to keep attacking. There’s minimal delay between each throw, so you can keep spamming them.
The Smithscript Dagger is the only Throwing Blade in the game. You can find it in the Ruined Forge Lava Intake.

Hand-to-Hand Arts
Hand-to-Hand Arts are martial arts weapons with a unique moveset made up of quick punches and a flurry of kicks culminating in flashy combos. They’re best suited for STR/DEX builds that can also take punishment from enemies.
- Dryleaf Arts – Obtained after defeating Dryleaf Dane in a duel
- Dane’s Footwork – Obtained after defeating Dryleaf Dane in Enir-Ilim
Weapon | Physical Damage | Magic Damage | Fire Damage | Lightning Damage | Holy Damage | Critical Damage | Boost | Scaling | Ash of War |

Thrusting Shields
Thrusting Shields allow you to attack and defend at the same time. As the name suggests, you can execute thrusting attacks with these shields. You can also change their affinity to inflict status damage or change their Ash of War.
Shadow of the Erdtree comes with two Thrusting Shields –
- Dueling Shield – Found on a corpse within the Specimen Storehouse inside Shadow Keep
- Carian Thrusting Shield – Found inside a chest in Castle Ensis

Beast Claws
Beast Claws are dual-handed melee weapons with a vicious flurry of attacks. They offer excellent mobility with the Tarnished leaping in the direction of enemies and landing hits in quick succession. Beast Claws are great for inflicting status effect procs such as bleed.
- Red Bear’s Claw – Obtained after defeating Red Bear boss in Northern Nameless Mausoleum
- Beast Claw – Obtained after defeating Logur, The Beast Claw in the south Gravesite Plain region

Perfume Bottles
Perfume Bottles refer to the poisons and elixirs used by the Perfumer enemy type in Elden Ring. This weapon type can be wielded in one hand and the Tarnished can toss them to do status effect damage. This weapon type can come in handy if you’re dealing with a mob of enemies and need an AoE attack to clear the horde or create a bit of distance.
The DLC offers five different kinds of Perfume Bottles –

- Chilling Perfume Bottle – Found inside Lamenter’s Gaol
