Furnace Golem Elden Ring.

Apart from the different weapon types, Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC introduced two new consumables in the form of Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots.

While you can use these items freely in combat, they work the best when used against the Furnace Golems. You’ll find these towering bosses roaming around in the open world within the Shadow Realm.

Since this is a specialized consumable, you will have to craft it and in order to do so, you will have to unlock the recipes for both the Hefty Fire Pots and the Hefty Furnace Pots.

How to unlock Hefty Fire Pots recipe

To unlock the recipe for the Hefty Fire Pots you need to find the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [1].

To find it, you need to make your way to the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace. From here, when you face north, you’ll see a staircase with a skeleton on it – loot this skeleton to get the book.

This is probably the first area that you will encounter when starting the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

This place is also crawling with weaker Shadow enemies, so you can either sneak past them or eliminate them.

How to unlock Hefty Furnace Pot recipe

The Hefty Furnace Pot recipe can be found in the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2], which you can find in Run Down Traveler’s Rest.

To get there, you’ll have to make your way to the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace. From here, head towards Ellac Bridge, but don’t use it to go across.

Instead, take the path that leads below the bridge and into the Run-Down Traveler’s Rest which is located directly below the bridge. Inside this structure, you’ll find a corpse with the Greater Potentate’s Cookbook [2].

This structure can be found below the Ellac Greatbridge.

Now that you’ve unlocked the recipe for the Hefty Fire Pots and the Hefty Furnace Pots, here’s how you can craft them.

How to craft

To craft Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots, you’ll need the following items:

  • Hefty Cracked Pots
  • Redflesh Mushrooms
  • Black Pyreflies
  • Black Smoldering Butterflies
  • Ember of Messmer
  • Furnace Visage

Apart from the Hefty Cracked Pots, you’ll find the rest scattered across different locations in the Realm of Shadows.

Here’s how you can find the other items in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

Where to find Hefty Cracked Pots in Elden Ring

To find Hefty Cracked Pots, you need to make your way to the Belurat Gaol. The easiest way to access this place is by traveling north-west from the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace.

Hefty Cracked Pots
The three Hefty Cracked Pots in Belurat Gaol are the easiest to find in the game.

Once you’re inside the Belurat Gaol, keep exploring the area till you come across a hole in the ground through which you can drop into a room filled with hanging jars.

As you navigate your way through this room by jumping from one jar to another, you’ll see a wooden platform. Jump down on this platform to collect your first Hefty Cracked Pot.

After you’ve collected this pot, drop down and you’ll end up in a maze filled with jars. When you finally exit this maze, jump to the other side and keep following the road till you come across two corpses with a Hefty Cracked Pot each.

Apart from the three locations mentioned above, you’ll come across more Hefty Cracked Pots by defeating other enemies in the Realm of Shadows.

Where to find Ember of Messmer

Embers of Messmer can be found in the Scadu Atlus region only. These are enemy drops that can be obtained by defeating fire dogs that are patrolling Messmer Military Camps near Shadow Keep and Castle Ensis.

Where to find Furnace Visages

Furnace Visages can be exclusively found by defeating Furnace Golems in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. There are only so many Furnace Visages available in the game, so the number of Hefty Furnace Pots you can craft is limited.

How to use

To use the Hefty Fire Pots and Hefty Furnace Pots, you need to either get to an elevated point while fighting the Furnace Golems, or you need to stagger them enough that they fall down.

Once that happens, you need to toss the Hefty Fire Pot or the Hefty Furnace Pot into their basket, and you’ll deal massive damage to them. Given how much damage this consumable does, this is the best way to defeat these field bosses.

If you’re still struggling to find a good sword, here’s where you can find all three Backhand Blades along with the Ancient Meteorite Ore Greatsword in the Shadow Realm.
