With the reveal of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer gameplay at the Call of Duty Next event, the devs officially revealed all of the game modes that players will be engaging with in the beta.

Modern Warfare 2’s beta is finally here, as PlayStation players will be able to dig their teeth into the brand-new Call of Duty as of September 16, just a day after the exciting Call of Duty Next event.

A lot of information has been revealed about both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0, from the brand new battle royale map Al Mazrah, to the inclusion of both Scorestreaks and Killstreaks.

The devs also revealed details about the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer playlists, which feature some brand-new modes, as well as some classics that players will be expecting.

With that said, let’s get into all of the game modes available in the Modern Warfare 2 beta.

All Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer beta game modes

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature a variety of maps and game modes, giving the players a chance to get to grips with the new Perk system and Gunsmith.

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will feature Core Maps for 6v6 and Battle Maps for 32v32, each with their own game modes. Here are all of the game modes and corresponding player counts available during the Modern Warfare 2 beta:

32v32

  • Invasion

Invasion is a brand-new 32v32 deathmatch that follows similar rules to Team Deathmatch but is played on Ground War maps and with AI.

In this mode, vehicles are available and each team will start with AI combatants. Eliminating players will earn the team points, and the team with the most points will win the match once the allotted time is over.

6v6

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Knockout
  • Prisoner Rescue

The 6v6 modes include the classics that most Call of Duty players will be familiar with, as well as two brand-new modes, Knockout and Prisoner Rescue.

Knockout is a round-based mode that sees two teams fighting “over a bag of Cash” that’s placed in the middle of the map. The player with the bag in their possession will appear on the map, leaving them exposed. Holding the bag for 60 seconds or eliminating the entire enemy team will win the round.

Prisoner Rescue is also a round-based mode with no respawns and revives enabled. The mode sees two teams with hostages close to their spawn. Each team will attempt to infiltrate the enemy’s territory, take the hostage, and carry them back to the extraction point to gain points.

Carrying a hostage will leave you slowed and unable to prone or climb, but you will get a sweeping radar to see the enemy’s position on picking up a hostage. While the hostage is “impervious to enemy weaponry,” you can still be put down while carrying them, and will only have your secondary weapon for protection.

Teams will also receive points for defending their hostages and preventing extractions, as well as eliminating the enemy team. The team with the most points wins the round.

Modern Warfare 2 third-person mode

The Modern Warfare 2 beta will also bring a third-person mode to the game. This mode features 6v6 game modes but in the third-person perspective.

Aiming down sights with your weapon is the only time you will activate a first-person perspective, so watch out for third-person peeking around corners.

That’s all for the modes available to players during the Modern Warfare 2 beta. For more, be sure to check out the upgraded RICOCHET anti-cheat for MW2 and Warzone 2.0.
