The Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 update brought new weapons, maps, and modes to the game.

The major update delivered several new game modes alongside the selection of Modern Warfare 2 modes that were available at launch. Modern Warfare 2 players got their wish as CoD classics made their way to Modern Warfare 2.

Whether you’re looking for timeless modes like Hardpoint and Domination, or new inclusions like Prisoner Rescue, here’s every game mode in Modern Warfare 2.

Modern Warfare 2 features a variety of maps and game modes, giving players a chance to get to master the new KV Broadside Shotgun and ISO Hemlock Assault Rifle.

Modern Warfare 2 offers Core Maps for 6v6 and Battle Maps for 32v32 gameplay, each with its own game modes. Here are all of the game modes and corresponding player counts available in Modern Warfare 2:

32v32

  • Ground War
  • Ground War Invasion

Ground War Invasion is a brand-new 32v32 mode that follows similar rules to Team Deathmatch but is played on Ground War maps and with AI.

In this mode, vehicles are available and each team will start with AI combatants. Eliminating players will earn the team points, and the first team to reach 2,000 points will win the match.

Meanwhile, the traditional Ground War mode will feature two teams of 32 who will “square off to capture an odd number of objectives on a large map.” Call of Duty fans can think of this as a large-scale version of Domination, and the first team to earn 250 points will win the match.

The 6v6 modes include the classics that most Call of Duty players will be familiar with including Free-for-All, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Headquarters, Kill Confirmed Control, and the iconic Search & Destroy.

Of course, the devs are always looking to innovate, and they’ve added Knock Out and Prisoner Rescue to do just that.

Knock Out is a round-based mode that sees two teams fighting “over a bag of Cash” that’s placed in the middle of the map. The player with the bag in their possession will appear on the map, leaving them exposed. Holding the bag for 60 seconds or eliminating the entire enemy team will win the round.  There are no respawns in Knock Out, but team revives are enabled.

Prisoner Rescue is also a round-based mode with no respawns and revives enabled. The mode sees two teams fight to escort and defend hostages. The attacking team will attempt to infiltrate the enemy’s territory, take two hostages, and carry them back to the extraction point to gain 100 points.

Teams will also receive points for defending their hostages and preventing extractions, as well as eliminating the enemy team. The first team to hit 500 points wins the match.

Season 2 delivered Gun Game, Infected, and Grind. Modern Warfare 2 players had been demanding party modes since launch, and they finally arrived to diversify the options in Season 2.

In addition, a more traditional Hardcore mode also arrived in Modern Warfare Season 2, after the Tier 1 Playlist failed to impress.
