Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has hundreds of levels and Prestige Ranks for you to plow through, so here’s an in-depth guide on how to earn XP quicker and level up faster.
There are many ways for players to earn XP in Black Ops Cold War with different modes to enjoy, such as competitive online multiplayer and Zombies – particularly Outbreak. The latest Call of Duty game contains hours upon hours of content for you to power your way through, and some of it will reward you better.
Season 3 of Cold War is still very much fresh, and all of its new content has provided many different ways to level up and enjoy the game. To accelerate your leveling up in Black Ops Cold War, here are some vital tips.
Option #1 – Black Ops Cold War Double XP Codes
This is by far the easiest and most efficient way to munch your way through in-game ranks. By purchasing specially marked Doritos, Mountain Dew, Gamefuel, or Tostinos products, you’ll get codes with your purchase for Double XP.
These codes will reward tokens that can range from anywhere between 15 minutes to 1 hour of Double XP.
Here’s how you can redeem your XP codes.
- Log in to the marked website on the side of the product you purchased. For example, if you have a Doritos token, it’s www.doritos.com/callofduty
- Link your Call of Duty/Activision account to your Doritos account.
- Redeem the Double XP code on your product
- You will also be entered in a competition to win double XP for a whole year
From here, just activate your Double XP on the Multiplayer or Zombies menu of Black Ops Cold War and start playing!
Option #2 – Double XP Weekend
Every now and again Activision will announce a few days in advance that both Cold War and Warzone will be having a Double XP Weekend.
- Read More: Best Krig 6 loadout for Cold War Season 3
This consists of either a 2x XP Weekend in which you’ll earn double the amount of regular XP for your rank and weapon level. Or a 3x XP Weekend in which you’ll earn Battle Pass ranks faster too.
Make sure to check out our regularly updated post about when the next Cold War and Warzone Double XP event will be.
Option #3 – Black Ops Cold War Weapon Challenges
When progressing weapons initially, you’ll unlock challenges, attachments, and camos quickly. Many players falsely believe that ranking up a single gun will maximize their XP potential. However, you will find that using different weapons and completing just the initial challenges and first few weapon levels will rack you up XP at a great rate.
The trick is to use a weapon until you notice you’re unlocking camos/challenges at a reduced rate and then change to a new weapon. This adds variety to your gameplay and gives you the opportunity to do several challenges at once.
If you’re a bit more mindful of your K/D, then maybe wait for a map you’re more confident with, or pick a game mode in which you don’t mind just grinding out Weapon XP challenges.
Option #4 – Play Objective Modes
While this might be obvious, the goal of an Objective Mode is to actually play the objective. Modes like Domination, Hardpoint, and Control offer great amounts of bonus XP when you’re an active objective player.
For example, in all objective modes, you get bonus XP for killing enemies on objectives, and every time you kill an enemy while on an objective you’ll get extra XP as well.
For Hardpoint, run trophy systems and try to play the point as much as possible. You’ll rake in lots of XP through protecting your team from explosives with your trophy system and also killing attacking/defending opponents on the hardpoint.
In Domination, true XP dominance comes in flag captures and defends. Spend a minute or so at a time in the ring of the objective and get kills for those extra defend points. Try to get your opponents stuck in their spawn and get as many kills and streaks as you can while you’re ahead.
Also, maybe avoid Solo modes if you’re not overly confident in your ability. Solo modes mainly rely on your ability to get your own points, so it might be more beneficial to play team-based modes and guarantee yourself more XP.
Option #5 – Get killstreaks and earn Scorestreaks
Conversely, if playing the objective isn’t always at the forefront of your Call of Duty brain, then perhaps focus more on kills. Black Ops Cold War’s points system is somewhat flawed in that earning a 5-10 killstreak in the space of 60 seconds will do more for your points than playing the objective ever could.
- Read More: When does Warzone & Cold War Season 4 begin?
Here’s a mini breakdown of how the points system works for kills:
- 2 kills +50
- 3 kills +50
- 4 kills +50
- 5 kills +500
- 6 kills +300
- 7 kills +350
- 8 kills +400
- 9 kills +450
- 10 kills +2000
There’s clearly a huge incentive to go for killstreaks to get the big scorestreaks, leaving a huge discrepancy in objective points and kill points. If you’re a decent CoD player, then you’ll easily rack up points this way, getting bigger and better scorestreaks in the process, along with more XP.
Make sure you’re using the right Scorestreak loadout for your gameplay style too.
Option #6 – Party Up on PS4 & PS5
Exclusive to PS4 and PS5 users is the ability to obtain a 25% Weapon XP boost when playing with parties. This also counts while playing with crossplay parties, but will only apply to PlayStation players.
You’ll see an “XP Boost active” icon in the pre-game lobby when it is active and it’s a nice, passive way of earning additional XP, especially if you have a new gun to try out.
Option #7 – Black Ops Cold War Battle Pass
One final way of ensuring you’re earning the most XP possible is to purchase the Black Ops Cold War Season Pass. For instance, Season Three Battle Pass owners have been enjoying a 10% increase in all XP earned during the season. That’s a substantial amount if you’re investing hours upon hours into Black Ops Cold War.
Another benefit that comes with the Pass is that multiple tiers will reward you with Double XP and Double Weapon XP tokens too.
So there’s a few ways that you can go about maximizing your XP return in Black Ops Cold War and increase your chances of hitting that elusive level 1,000 rank.

How to unlock the CARV.2 in Warzone & Cold War Season 3
The CARV.2, or G11, will arrive in Warzone and Cold War Season 3 soon, so here’s how you’ll be able to get your hands on it.
Black Ops Cold War and Warzone’s new Tactical Rifle, the CARV.2, commonly referred to as the G11, will be arriving soon. Here’s how you can unlock it once it arrives, and some ways you can get your hands on it early.
As with all new seasons of Call of Duty, there are new weapons to unlock and level up. Cold War and Warzone Seasons 2 and 3 have been particularly generous, offering players six new weapons in both seasons.
For Season 3, we’ve already received the Swiss K31, PPSH, and Ballistic Knife, but there are three new weapons on the way. Most exciting is a redesign of the original Black Ops’ burst-fire G11, now called the CARV.2.
Here’s how you’ll be able to unlock the G11 in Warzone and Cold War, as well as some ways to play with it early.
How to unlock the CARV.2 in Warzone and Cold War
Activision have revealed that the CARV.2 Tactical Rifle will release in Warzone and Cold War Season 3 on Thursday, May 6.
Season 2’s weapons, such as the ZRG 20mm Sniper Rifle and the R1 Shadowhunter had challenges to unlock it. Devs have confirmed that this burst-fire weapon will also unlock through an in-game challenge, with the challenge asking players to rapidly kill 2 or more players in 10 different completed matches using Tactical Rifles.
Along with the challenge, a Blueprint for the CARV.2 will also release in the store. Devs confirmed that it’s coming in the Plastik Porotype Bundle, with the Blueprint called Konsole, which will also release on May 6.
The CARV.2 has been described as a weapon that stands out in the Tactical Rifle class for its “high bullet velocity output, offering powerful damage, solid recoil control, and a large ammo pool from the start.”
With this weapon, it’s possible Warzone will have another burst-fire meta on its hands.
How to use the CARV.2 early in Warzone and Cold War
Players have reported that you can get your hands on the CARV.2 early by playing Cold War Zombies and Warzone Orientation.
Through the Trials missions in Zombies and Outbreak, you’ll receive certain rewards. Players have shown footage of them receiving the CARV.2 through the Trials, but it’s possible this has been patched by Treyarch since.
In Warzone, players have reported that you can try out the CARV.2 in the Warzone Orientation mode. You’ll only receive the base version, but it will give you a taste of how the weapon feels.
Here’s how to try out the CARV.2 in Warzone:
- Launch Warzone
- Select ‘Private Match & Practice’
- Queue into ‘Warzone Orientation’
- After you spawn in, drop your 1911
- You’ll have either the CARV.2 or the FARA 83 equipped
- If you get the FARA, back out and try again until you receive the CARV.2
It appears it’s much more likely to receive the FARA 83 in Orientation, but it’s worth trying a few times to see if you can get a shot of the G11 but again, it’s possible this has been silently patched.

Best AK-74u loadout for CoD: Cold War Season 3
The AK-74u is one of the best SMGs in Black Ops Cold War, so here’s the best attachments and perks to run with it in Season 3.
The AK-74u remains an extremely popular and powerful SMG in Cold War Season 3, so here are the best attachments and perks to dominate multiplayer lobbies.
The AK-74u is a hard-hitting, easy-to-control SMG in Black Ops Cold War Season 3. While recent nerfs have reigned it back from the long-range beast it once was, it’s still a popular choice amongst players of all skill levels.
Here’s everything you need to dominate with Cold War’s AK-74u, including the best attachments and perks.
Best AK-74u loadout class for Cold War Season 3
- Barrel: 10.3″ Task Force
- Underbarrel: Spetsnaz Grip
- Magazine: VDV 50 Round Fast Mag
- Handle: GRU Elastic Wrap
- Stock: KGB Skeletal Stock
This AK-74u is built to speed and recoil control, allowing it to keep up with the faster guns in its category while allowing it to have more range.
To start, the 10.3″ Task Force barrel vastly improves the weapon’s damage and range but hits its accuracy slightly. To compensate for that, it’s worth running the Spetnaz Grip to keep recoil to a minimum.
Then, the VDV 50 Round Fast Mag allows you to take down multiple opponents, then quickly reload. It’s especially useful for pulling off flanks or defending an objective the enemies keep rushing.
And finally, for increased mobility, the GRU Elastic Wrap and KGB Skeletal Stock will allow for a fast sprint to fire time, aim down sight speed, and offers the ability to drop shot.
Best perks to run with Cold War AK-74u loadout
For this loadout we’ll be using the Perk Greed Wildcard so you can equip up to six perks.
- Perk 1: Flak Jacket & Tactical Mask
- Perk 2: Gear Head & Scavenger
- Perk 3: Ghost & Ninja
For Perk 1, Flak Jacket and Tactical Mask will make you resistant to all Lethal and Tactical Equipment, so you’re ready for any situation. Then, you should use the Scavenger to keep your ammo supply topped up, and Gear Head will allow you to quickly replenish and carry an extra Field Upgrade.
And finally, Ghost and Ninja will hide you from Spy Planes, Field Mics, and keep your footsteps silent for quick flanks on the enemy.
How to unlock the AK-74u in Cold War Season 3
Luckily, the AK-74u arrived with Black Ops Cold War’s launch, so there are no challenges needed to unlock it or a Battle Pass to grind.
All you have to do is hit Level 19 in Cold War or Warzone, and the AK-74u will be yours. This shouldn’t take you long, but concentrate on playing the objective and racking up Scorestreaks and you’ll have it in no time.
There are some great alternatives to the AK-74u if you haven’t unlocked it yet, or fancy trying something different. The KSP-45 has been surprisingly effective since its recent buffs, and Season 3’s PPSH-41 is hard to resist.
If you want something with more range, you could use the XM4 which has decent mobility for an Assault Rifle, while being an absolute laser beam at any range.
With these attachments and perks, you’re ready to dominate all matches of Cold War Season 3.
