FIFA 22 FUT Captains: Release date, promo explained, & featured players
A new promo called FUT Captains has arrived in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, bringing a new team of special cards and Hero upgrades.
The active FIFA 22 Ultimate Team promo is called FUT Captains, a brand-new event that boosts the game’s best leaders as well as FUT Hero cards. Here’s everything you need to know about the promo.
The FUT Hero concept in FIFA 22 honored spectacular former players who didn’t quite achieve Icon status. Although Ultimate Team players praised EA for delivering an interesting new concept, the majority of FUT Hero cards failed to see frequent use from players.
However, the FUT Captains FIFA 22 Ultimate Team promo will focus on delivering much-needed upgrades to the aforementioned FUT Hero cards, as well as celebrating the best skippers still playing today.
Here’s everything you need to know about the FUT Captains promo in FIFA 22.
FUT Captains release date
Confirmed via an in-game loading screen, EA have announced that week one of FIFA 22 FUT Captains got underway on April 8, 2022. Team Two of FUT Captains has hit Ultimate Team on April 15, 2022.
As is customary for EA promos in FUT, players received the new cards in packs at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST / 7 PM CET.
FIFA 22 FUT Captains explained
The FUT Captains promo delivers a considerable boost to certain FUT Heroes. Of course, these will differ from existing FUT Hero cards and not act as a boost to the ones you might already own.
This event will also come with a full promo team of juiced cards for some of football’s best current captains, which will arrive in packs at the same time.
The loading screen found in-game revealed two different card variations, one for the FUT Hero upgrades and one for original FUT Captains cards.
FUT Captains featured players
Team 1 FUT Captains
There were some truly spectacular players up for grabs in the FUT Captains promo. FIFA 22 players will get two teams as the promo will run for two weeks. The standout player in team one is without a doubt Wissam Ben Yedder, whose cards always rocket to the top of the meta.

The FUT Captains promo will also highlight FUT Hero cards. These cards received upgrades and will also be available in packs throughout the promo.

Team 2 FUT Captains
Team 2 also introduced FIFA 22 players to some valuable new additions. Marcelo is an obvious standout and players had been asking for a special Marcelo card for months now. There are also three Premier League players, which is great news for those who use English squads.

- Ivan Cordoba: Serie A
- Joe Cole: Premier League
There are some incredible cards scattered around Team 1 and Team 2 of FUT Captains that will prove to be viable even after the upcoming TOTS promo.

EA have released yet another excellent FIFA 22 Flashback SBC following the highly rated Flashback Isco. This time the focus shifts from Spain to France, as the Ligue 1 TOTS takes center stage.
Verratti will be an excellent addition to squads given there are five PSG players in the Ligue 1 TOTS. If you get your hands on some top-caliber Ligue 1 players, you’ll want to consider completing the Flashback Verratti SBC.

FIFA 22 Flashback Verratti SBC stats
Flashback Verratti will feel like an Icon card in FIFA 22 thanks to his incredible stats. Verratti is the ultimate all-around midfielder who can occupy any position in the center of the pitch from CAM to CDM. Verratti is known for his range of passing and his in-game stats of 97 Short Passing and 97 Long Passing are incredible.
Verratti is also capable of putting in a tackle and winning the ball back with his 91 Standing Tackle and 94 Sliding Tackle. His Dribbling stats should not be underestimated either as all six individual statistics are well into the 90s.

To complete this SBC, players will need to give up three squads: PSG, Italy, and Ligue 1. With a value of around 260,000 coins, Verratti is fairly priced given his incredible stats and strong links to some of the best players available in FIFA 22.

The Flashback Verratti SBC will be available for two weeks as it expires on June 10. The two weeks should give you sufficient time to submit the required squads valued at around 260,000 coins.
Verratti is a meta midfielder that will be a solid addition to teams even at this stage of the game. If you pack one of Neymar, Mbappe, Messi, Mendes, or Marquinhos, completing Verratti is a must.
With the FIFA 22Â Serie A TOTS arriving June 3, Verratti will also link to the best Italian players who make the official squad.

FIFA 22 Ligue 1 TOTS release date
According to the official schedule announced by EA Sports, Ligue 1 TOTS hit Ultimate Team on Friday, May 27, 2022. It replaced the LaLiga squad in packs from 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST.
The French league will take center stage for an entire week before being replaced by Serie A on the following Friday.
Don’t worry, though, if you miss out on the player you wanted, the best Ligue 1 players will likely return for Ultimate TOTS on June 10.
Ligue 1 TOTS voting in FIFA 22
Unfortunately, the Ligue 1 TOTS did not take fan votes into account. While the likes of the Premier League and Bundesliga always allow players to vote, other leagues are hand-picked by EA themselves.

The schedule never mentioned a voting window for the French league and EA selected the elite players involved.
FIFA 22 Ligue 1 TOTS predictions
There have been plenty of stellar performances in Ligue 1 this season. PSG were an unstoppable force as they reclaimed their title, but stars from up and down the table are also worthy of a mention.

Team of the Season is always the biggest promo of the year, as the very best players from LaLiga, Ligue 1, and other top leagues over the past season are given massively upgraded cards.
For FIFA 22, EA are kicking things up a notch, as a Tokens system features for the first time in the event. First introduced as part of Icon Swaps, Tokens Swaps have played a huge role in FUT this year, including promos like Future Stars and FUT Birthday.
But how do FIFA 22 TOTS Token Swaps work? Here’s everything we know so far.

FIFA 22 TOTS Token Swaps 2 start date
TOTS Token Swaps 2 is set to hit FIFA 22 on May 27 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. EA already confirmed that the refresh would arrive on May 27, replacing the TOTS Token Swaps 1 in-game
Much like the first batch, it is likely that players will not be able to submit their tokens and receive rewards until a couple of weeks after release. Leakers claim that players will be able to submit tokens from June 10 to June 17.
What are FIFA 22 TOTS Swaps?
The Swaps system asks players to earn Tokens by completing in-game objectives and SBCs, which can then be submitted for rewards. You can choose to save up all of your Tokens for the top prize, or splash them on multiple smaller rewards – the choice is all yours.
Tokens are added almost every day, and while most are easy to spot, some have been known to be smuggled away in one of the individual Marquee Matchup SBCs. We recommend checking FUT every day at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM GMT / 7 PM CET to make sure you see them all.
The second batch is likely to offer 25 tokens to earn in total, with the best reward requiring 22. Keep your eyes peeled, as you can only afford to skip three if you want to scoop the highest prize.
