Player Career Mode has been given a big overhaul on FIFA 22, with plenty more objectives to make the feature feel authentic. However, some big issues are making the mode “unplayable” for many FIFA fans.

Before Ultimate Team began its world domination, Career Mode was one of the biggest draws of the FIFA series.

Whether you were playing as a manager looking to build a squad of top-rated superstars or a solo upstart trying to make a name for yourself, it has always been the closest FIFA has come to simulating the real sport.

FIFA 22 brought with it plenty of overdue updates to Player Career, in particular, but fans are unhappy with how they are working.

Match objectives in FIFA 22 Player Career Mode

One of the marquee changes EA implemented in FIFA 22 Career Mode is the introduction of manager ratings and objectives.

These two work hand-in-hand – by completing objectives you earn favor with your manager until you eventually crack the first team.

However, fans have criticized the “stupid” decisions that the AI managers make, penalizing players for situations that are out of their hands.

One Reddit user even said that he was sold for not performing well enough, despite the fact they were injured and couldn’t play.

Player coming on as sub in FIFA 22 Career Mode

Other Redditors responded pointing out other fundamental flaws in how Player Career in FIFA 22 is playing.

It’s just unplayable in so many ways IMO,” said one player. “I always get put in a completely incorrect position and not moved back, and the manager will constantly bench our best players whilst starting me on 50 fitness.”

Another agreed, saying they were often played at center-back despite being an attacking midfielder. Meanwhile, a defender like Kalidou Koulibaly was moved into midfield.

There have also been reports of unrealistic objectives being set when players are brought on off the bench. Managers will often ask for a goal and a high match rating, even though there are only 10-minutes left to play.

It remains to be seen if EA will look to address player concerns about Career Mode in a future patch. As always, stay tuned on Charlie INTEL for all the latest news and updates.
