The following five players are most deserving of a major rating upgrade in FIFA 23 after EA missed the mark with the worst ratings in the game.

EA slowly delivered the top ratings in FIFA 23 before unveiling the best players from the Serie A, LaLiga, Premier League, Ligue 1, and Bundesliga. A lot has changed from FIFA 22, with standout players receiving major upgrades.

However, not all players who impressed throughout the 2021/2022 campaign as well as at the start of the current campaign received the upgrades they deserved. Ultimate Team players rely on ratings both on the pitch and to complete SBCs, making them an integral part of the mode.

Here are the worst ratings in FIFA 23 as we highlight five players who are most deserving of an upgrade.

A look back at the worst FIFA 22 ratings

Before the FIFA 23 ratings were officially revealed, we compiled a list of five players we believed were in desperate need of an upgrade in FIFA 23. These players began FIFA 22 as severely underrated players and developed into top talents throughout the year.

Let’s take a look if EA agreed with our player picks.

Player NameFIFA 22 RatingUpgradeFIFA 23 Rating
Aaron Ramsdale 74+882
Bremer76+783
Jonathan Clauss77+380
Allan Saint-Maximin79+281
Florian Wirtz78+482

As you can see most of the players we selected received major upgrades, which means we could see the same for the players below in the future.

To balance the list, we specifically identified one player from each of Europe’s top five leagues.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been an absolute revelation for Napoli since joining the Italian side during the latest summer transfer window. The winger has undoubtedly been the early season Serie A MVP, as his dribbling and finishing have been a joy to watch.

Even though he only recently hit this new form, it’s strange to see such a high-profile player with a low rating of 74 in FIFA 23. Prior to joining Napoli, several of Europe’s top clubs were battling for his signature due to his excellent performances at Rubin Kazan and later Dinamo Batumi.

Kouadio Manu Kone

Kone rating FIFA 23

Kouadio Manu Kone is one of the best young midfielders in the Bundesliga, and despite only being 21 years old, his FIFA 23 rating of 77 feels rather low. Borussia Mönchengladbach didn’t have the greatest season last year but Kone was a distinct bright spot.

Kone started 26 of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 27 Bundesliga matches last season and he’s continued to be a vital component of the squad with seven starts in seven games this season. Kone is a holding midfielder who has an excellent two-way game and Gladbach has already enjoyed a fruitful start to the new season thanks to his displays.

Jonathan Bamba

Much like Gladbach, Lille underperformed last season which has led to their biggest stars receiving downgrades. Bamba has gone from an 80 overall rating to a downright disrespectful rating of 76 in FIFA 23.

It’s true that Bamba only scored one Ligue 1 goal last season, but one season to forget should not erase years of hard work at the top level. This season, he looks like a man who is determined to prove the doubters wrong.

With three goals and two assists in eight games for Lille, it seems EA were too quick to hand Bamba a downgrade in FIFA 23.

Yunus Musah

Yunus Musah FIFA 23 rating

At just 19 years of age, Yunus Musah is a member of the USA national team that will be heading to the Qatar World Cup. It’s strange to see a dominant young player with 29 appearances for Valencia in 2021/2022 only boast a rating of 73 in FIFA 23.

LaLiga is a difficult league to find your footing as a young player, and Musah has done exactly that. Despite his RM card, Musah mostly plays centrally for Valencia as a midfielder who isn’t afraid to get forward.

Musah has been a standout player under Gennaro Gattuso in 2022, further proving that he is deserving of a Gold card at the very least.

Moises Caicedo

Moises Caicedo received a +6 rating upgrade from FIFA 22 to FIFA 23 and yet it still doesn’t feel like enough. Caicedo is fully deserving of a Gold card in Ultimate Team as his performances for Beerschot and Brighton last season were awe-inspiring.

Caicedo isn’t one to go for goal, but he certainly knows how to boss a midfield and dictate the pace of a match. He’s been one of Brighton’s top performers in the early stages of the 2022/2023 season, as the club miraculously occupies the fourth position in the Premier League.
