FIFA 23 to add National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) for the first time
FIFA 23 developers EA SPORTS have announced that the National Women’s Soccer League will arrive in-game later this month, as the team doubles down on their commitment to women’s football.
FIFA 23 marked a noticeable step forward when it came to representing women’s football compared to past entries in the series. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr became the franchise’s first-ever female cover star, while domestic women’s leagues like the WSL and Division 1 Arkema made their debut.
This support has continued post-launch with the announcement that the Women’s World Cup will be included down the line, as well as the arrival of the Women’s Champions League.
Now, EA have taken things one step further by revealing that another new division is coming soon.
The devs have confirmed that the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) will be added to FIFA 23 in an update on Wednesday, March 15. This will be the first time in history that the NWSL, the top league in US women’s football, has featured in a video game.
This deal between EA, the NWSL, and the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA) is expected to stretch beyond FIFA 23, so we can anticipate seeing the league return in EA SPORTS FC 24 and beyond.
All NWSL teams coming to FIFA 23
Players can look forward to all 12 NWSL clubs and their licensed players, all of which come with authentic kits and commentary, as well as four licensed stadiums. Check out all of the teams coming to FIFA 23 below:
- Angel City FC
- Chicago Red Stars
- Houston Dash
- Kansas City Current
- NJ/NY Gotham FC
- North Carolina Courage
- OL Reign
- Orlando Pride
- Portland Thorns FC
- Racing Louisville FC
- San Diego Wave FC
- Washington Spirit
It’s worth keeping in mind that the NWSL will only be playable in Kick-Off modes, including Volta, as well as Online Seasons, but won’t feature in Career Mode or Ultimate Team.
This may come as a disappointment to fans who wanted to embark on a Career Mode as one of the NWSL squads, but the community will no doubt be pleased to see the roster of women’s teams continue to grow in FIFA 23 and in the future.
