Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: All playable characters & how to unlock

Square Enix is getting ready to launch Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on February 29, and also update its demo with more to try before release. If you want to know which characters can be used in battle, as well as others that can be unlocked later, here’s all you need to know.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues the story left behind by Remake in 2020, and players are eager to know what awaits them in the new open world. Cloud and the rest of Avalanche will travel across many regions, and meet new friends.

The party is bigger than in the first game, and previews confirmed that players can now choose between members at will. Cloud will always lead the overworld, but what about the rest of Avalanche?

All playable characters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth features eight confirmed playable characters at the time of writing. The whole Avalanche crew, the later additions of Yuffie and Cait Sith, and of course as seen in the Nibelheim demo: Sephiroth will be playable.

So, here’s every playable character confirmed so far in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth:

• Cloud Strife
• Tifa Lockheart
• Barret Wallace
• Aerith Gainsborough
• Red XIII
• Yuffie Kisaragi
• Cait Sith
• Sephiroth

Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Aerith, and Red XIII, according to previews, seem to be unlocked as soon as the players gain control of the party in Kalm. Sephiroth is playable during the Nibelheim portion of the game, but it hasn’t been confirmed if he will be playable in a later section.

How to unlock Yuffie & Cait Sith in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Yuffie Kisaragi and Cait Sith are playable in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and according to previews and what we saw in gameplay trailers, it seems that a regular story progression will unlock these two characters.

The original story of Final Fantasy 7 saw the ninja from Wutai, Yuffie, as an optional unlockable character, and Cait Sith joining through natural progression. If everything we’ve seen so far doesn’t change, FF7 Rebirth will follow the same structure with these characters as it did in the original.

What other main characters appear in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth?

Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind appeared in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s last trailer, and are confirmed to join and aid Cloud’s party in their adventures.

Regardless of that, they are confirmed as non-playable characters in Rebirth. The devs have stated that they want to leave their gameplay as a surprise for the next and final part of the FF7 Remake Project.
