One of the things players loved about the original FF7 is that you could ride Chocobos around the world, and that mechanic is back in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Ever since the ending of Remake, players knew that Chocobos were going to be a crucial part of Square Enix’s next VII entry.

You can ride Chocobos with different abilities in each area of Rebirth, and change their appearance to make them look fancy, or like a giant horse-like chicken. To do this, you need to obtain a special item and unlock the Chocoboutique.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: What are Golden Plumes & how to get them

Golden Plumes are special items used for changing a Chocobo’s appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and they are obtained by restoring Chocobo Stops in every region. When traveling around maps, you will spot a little Chocobo that will guide you to a Stop, where you can repair its sign and obtain a Golden Plume.

These key items will be automatically stocked in your inventory once you repair the sign, and some Side Quests will provide them as rewards as well.

How to change Chocobo’s appearance in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

To change your Chocobo’s appearance in FF7 Rebirth, you must first unlock the Chocoboutique in The Grasslands. After the events of the Nibelheim Flashback, the party will start their adventure in Kalm and move forward to the first open area, where Bill’s Ranch will pack a Side Quest to unlock the Boutique.

Once you finish all Side Quests in Bill’s Ranch, you will get your first two Golden Plumes, which can be used to buy your first Chocobo cosmetics. On every ranch around the world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you will find a Chocoboutique sign where you can change your Chocobo’s appearance.

Each stable will sell different cosmetics for Golden Plumes, which will later be of use in the Golden Saucer, so be sure to repair every Chocobo Stop and buy every piece from each stable.
