Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a new set of attack options, where Cloud can team up with one of his friends and deliver powerful combos. These are called Synergy Skills and Abilities, which trigger synchronized attacks that can completely devastate enemies.

Learning how to use Synergy Skills and Abilities is key to mastering the FF7 Rebirth combat system, and while it isn’t difficult, they can be a little intricate to combine to get the best out of each team-up.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Synergy Abilities & Skills

In Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Synergy Abilities and Skills are the core attack options that allow two characters to team up and deliver combos to stagger enemies.

Synergy Skills are free actions that can be used in multiple situations, as they don’t consume any combat resources. If they are landed correctly, they help to charge the ATB meter faster than regular attacks. To use them, players will need to hold the R1 button (Block button), and then choose between Triangle or Square (Offensive Synergy Skills) or between Circle or X (Defensive Synergy Skills).

This set of skills can be customized in the quick slot menu of Combat Settings and will strengthen the relationship between Cloud and the other character selected.

On the other hand, Synergy Abilities are powerful techniques similar to Limit Breaks, where the two characters will perform a special tag-team skill in a flashy cutscene. They can only be performed once you’ve got the required Synergy Charges for each of two characters, which can be obtained by using basic Weapon abilities.

Keep in mind that Synergy Abilities will also depend on the ATB gauge, which will drain after using them. When used, they can also unlock bonuses like unlimited MP, new Limit Break levels, and HP restoration until the end of the battle

How to unlock Synergy Abilities & Skills in FF7 Rebirth

To unlock Synergy Abilities and Skills in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you’ll need to get character folios, which can only be obtained via the Folio Vending Machine found at Maghnata Books or a Rest Stop.

Each character has a unique menu of Skill Core nodes, and every time you level one up, you’ll earn SP. If you manage to get enough SP, you can use them in the Folio Grid to upgrade and improve every character, which will unlock new Synergy Skills and Abilities.
