Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Who is Zack Fair?

Zack Fair is Cloud’s ex-SOLDIER companion and the one who gives the Buster Sword to him. He is the protagonist of Crisis Core, a PSP game that received a remake in December 2022 called Reunion, in which he dies at the end, protecting Cloud from Shinra Soldiers.

Back in 2007, when the seventh game in the franchise was celebrating its 10th anniversary, the FF7 compilation was released. This included a few extra stories for FF7 and its different characters, where Crisis Core came to be on the PSP and Zack Fair first entered the stage.

Crisis Core is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy 7 on PS1, and as Zack is briefly mentioned in it, the action RPG game gave us a much wider knowledge of the boy from Gongaga. He is the official love interest of Aerith, and his presence in Midgar in the FF7 Rebirth trailers is a complete mystery.
