It’s a new week in Fortnite Season 6, and Epic Games have dropped a brand-new update for the popular battle royale game on PS5, PS4 Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, including a new Exotic Marksman Six Shooter weapon.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 7 is just a few weeks away now, but Epic Games continue to drop bi-weekly updates for the game in an attempt to keep things feeling fresh.

Tuesday, May 11 sees the fifth major update of the season, and introduces a new Exotic weapon to the loot pool, along with a brand-new POI located in the southwest of the map.

On top of that, Epic have been hard at work addressing bugs and glitches that have been affecting the game, so there’s plenty to sink your teeth into when you download this update. Take a look at the full Fortnite v16.40 update patch notes below.

Exotic Marksman Six Shooter

Fortnite Marksman Six Shooter stats

A new weapon is the headline addition to Fortnite with the 16.40 update, with the exotic Marksman Six Shooter pistol making its debut in-game.

The “fast-firing sidearm” deals 24 damage-per-shot with a magazine size of six. While it may not hold many bullets, the reload time of 2.1 seconds makes the magazine size less important, with Medium bullets the ammo of choice.

How players can get their hands on this pistol isn’t confirmed just yet, but it’s likely you’ll need to purchase it from an NPC like the other exotic weapons.

The Dub shotgun vaulted

While Epic Games giveth, they also taketh away. The introduction of the Marksman Six exotic means they’ve decided to take The Dub shotgun out of rotation, storing it away in the game’s vault for the time being.

Of course, vaulted weapons can always return in the future, so this may not be the last we see of The Dub.

Wild Week 2

The second Wild Week of Season 6 is officially on its way, with Epic using a fish emoji on Twitter to tease the theme of this one.

What this week will entail remains a secret, but we won’t have long to wait to find out, as it kicks off on May 13.

Fortnite 16.40 bug fixes

As always, the developers have been hard at work addressing some bugs and glitches that have been affecting the game over the last few weeks. While Epic don’t release full patch notes, they have updated their official Trello board so we can see what has been fixed.

  • Visual issues on Toon Meowscles and similarly-styled Outfits on certain platforms.
  • Cannot create system-level parties between PS5 and PS4 when playing Fortnite.

Fortnite Upgrade Bench

There are several ways to upgrade your weapons in Fortnite Season 8, so here are all of the Upgrade Bench locations and where you can find Weapon-o-Matic machines to purchase higher rarity guns.

Looting and crafting the best weapons possible is a significant factor in winning a game of Fortnite. All the builds in the world can’t save you if you can’t defend yourself, after all.

Fortnite is a battle royale, so there will always be some luck in finding the best weapons. However, you can eliminate some of this RNG and build the best loadout possible through upgrading and crafting.

Here’s everything you need to know about upgrading weapons in Fortnite Season 8:

Fortnite Season 8 Upgrade Bench locations

  • Lockies Lighthouse at the southern docking area
  • Craggy Cliffs in the eastern garage
  • Steamy Stacks in the center building

How to use Fortnite Upgrade Benches in Season 8

Once you’ve found an Upgrade Bench, you need to approach it, press interact, and follow the prompt to upgrade your weapon’s rarity. But, it comes at a price.

Gold is now Fortnite’s currency, and you’ll need to spend it on upgrading your weapons in matches. Upgrade your weapon a couple of times can get pricey very quickly, so you need to decide if it’s worth all of the hard-earned cash.

Here’s how much it costs to upgrade your weapons in Fortnite:

  • Common (grey) > Uncommon (green) = 200 Gold Bars
  • Uncommon (green) > Rare (blue) = 300 Gold Bars
  • Rare (blue) > Epic (purple) = 400 Gold Bars
  • Epic (purple) > Legendary (orange) = 500 Gold Bars

If you need a quick weapon fix, Weapon-o-Matic Vending Machines can offer you a cheap alternative – if you’re lucky enough to find one. You won’t need to fork out hundreds of Gold to upgrade, but you can only do so the right upgrade is available.

It only costs 50 Gold Bars to purchase a new weapon from a Weapon-o-Matic machine, so it will be well worth your time checking what they have in stock.

You can check out the map above for every Weapon-o-Matic Vending Machine location.

How to craft weapons in Fortnite Season 8

Fortnite crafting guide

Crafting has also returned in Fortnite Season 8 and can be a great way to build yourself some special weapons. All you need is a base weapon and Nuts and Bolts or Cube Monster Parts.

You can find the Nuts and Bolts all around the Fortnite island in chests and toolboxes, and the Cube Monster Parts are gained by defeating Sideways Monsters. Once you have these parts, here’s what you can craft:

  • Pump Shotgun + Nuts and Bolts: Charge Shotgun
  • Lever Action Shotgun + Nuts and Bolts: Charge Shotgun
  • Assault Rifle + Nuts and Bolts: Suppressed Assault Rifle
  • Burst Assault Rifle + Nuts and Bolts: Suppressed Assault Rifle
  • Submachine Gun + Nuts and Bolts: Rapid Fire SMG
  • Assault Rifle + Cube Monster Parts: Sideways Rifle
  • Burst Assault Rifle + Cube Monster Parts: Sideways Rifle

The Sideways spawns in a new area every game, and it can be very lucrative if you’re looking to upgrade your weapons. By using Cube Monster Parts on Sideways Weapons, you can upgrade the weapon’s rarity.

This starts cheap but quickly gets expensive, so you’ll need to take down quite a few Cube Monsters to upgrade these weapons.

Here’s how to upgrade Sideways Weapons in Fortnite Season 8:

  1. Enter the Sideways
  2. Open Sideways chests to get a Sideways Weapon
  3. Defeat Sideways Monsters and collect Cube Monster Parts
  4. Open up the Crafting Menu
  5. Craft the upgrade like you would a normal weapon

And that’s everything you need to know about upgrading weapons in Fortnite Season 8! You can also check out how to complete the Weekly Character Punchcard Quests.

Fortnite birthday cake and present

It’s hard to believe that it’s been four years since Fortnite began taking over the gaming world, but it’s true. Once again, Epic is celebrating in style with a special in-game Fourth Fortnite Birthday event, complete with Quests and rewards.

Fortnite Season 8 is a throwback in many ways, mainly thanks to the return of Kevin and his fellow alien Cubes. That’s why it’s fitting that the new season coincides with the anniversary of the battle royale’s release.

Fortnite has evolved a lot in the last four years, popularising features like the Battle Pass along the way.

So, to celebrate, Epic is launching a Fourth Fortnite Birthday event for players to dive into, packed with plenty of Quests and rewards.

How long does Fortnite’s Fourth Birthday event last

Fortnite birthday invitation

Fittingly, the Fortnite Birthday event festivities will last for four days, ending on September 28, 2021. The game’s official birthday is in the middle of the event on September 26.

Throughout the Fortnite Birthday event, players will be able to spot birthday cakes scattered around the island. Eating these baked goods will offer valuable health and shield boosts.

Birthday presents will also be returning from last year. These can be thrown onto the ground and contain rare loot.

Fourth Fortnite Birthday Quests & rewards

Fortnite Fourth Birthday Event

As part of the celebrations, players will have the chance to complete themed Quests to earn birthday rewards and XP.

There are four Quests in total, although the good news is that you only need to complete three of them to earn all the cosmetic rewards, the “4 Me???” Back Bling, “Hooplah Hammer Pickaxe, and “4? Score!” Emoticon.

The four Quests are:

  • Throw Birthday Presents (4)
  • Consume Birthday Cakes in different matches (4)
  • Dance in front of cakes (4)
  • Collect resources from balloon decorations (4)

Where to dance in front of cakes: Fortnite cake locations

While players will find the other three tasks randomly around the island, the cakes that players need to dance in front of are in set locations.

The good news is that every named location has a cake, so you can choose where you want to go, whether it’s your favorite landing spot or a handy rotation.

We’ve marked every cake on the map below.

Fortnite Eddie Brock and Venom skins

Fortnite has become well-known for its exciting mainstream crossovers, and next up is Marvel’s Eddie Brock and Venom, the symbiotic anti-hero from the upcoming Let There Be Carnage movie.

Fortnite’s Season 8 shook things up again, reintroducing Punchcard Quests and allowing players to vote on items and weapons they want to be unvaulted. The new season’s Battle Pass also included Carnage, who is set to play the villain in Venom’s upcoming movie which releases on October 1.

While there’s already a version of Venom in the game, players can now get their hands on the symbiote’s host Eddie Brock, complete with special emotes and cosmetics. Here’s how you can add it to your inventory.

Fortnite Eddie Brock skin

Inspired by Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the new Eddie Brock skin not only lets you play as Tom Hardy’s character from the movie but actually transform into Venom during matches using the special Venom Unleashed emote.

Once you’re finished tormenting enemies as Venom, you can use the emote to transition back to Brock, or you can equip the Venom skin in your Fortnite inventory to use the Spider-Man character permanently.

On top of this, players will also get the Symbiote Scythe pickaxe, along with the Different Tasty Snack Emoticon as part of the bundle. The Symbiote Trail Contrail and Sail Glider are also available to purchase from the Item Shop.

The Fortnite Eddie Brock bundle will set players back 2,000 V-Bucks, but there’s good news if you already own the original Venom skin released in November 2020, as you’ll only have to pay 800 V-Bucks to get your hands on Eddie Brock.

The Fortnite Eddie Brock skin is available right now from Fortnite’s Item Shop, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage releasing in theatres on October 1.
