A new season of Fortnite means brand new weird and wonderful items that coincide with the season’s theme. Season 7’s Alien theme has brought sci-fi weapons and Alien Parasites to the mix, and the 17.20 update has brought more changes.

Alien ground troops have begun mobilizing on the Island, and they’ve brought an aspect of their own home planet with them in the form of extra-terrestrial tech known as Alien Nanites.

Here’s everything we know about them in Fortnite Season 7.

Alien nanites in Fortnite

According to an official post from Epic Games, Fortnite Alien Nanites allow you to recreate the atmosphere of the Aliens’ home planet. Simply throw one down to create a low-gravity biome that you can exit and enter.

These Biomes are low-gravity zones that were previously leaked for Season 7. You can carry two of these at a time, and they’re “as thick as gelatin.” You’ll be able to descend faster in the biome by crouching.

One major benefit is that you won’t get hurt if you jump out of one from a high place. However, they also have another game-changing function.

Similar to crafting materials from Season 6, Fortnite Alien Nanites can upgrade your weapons. You’ll be able to collect them from the ground, on top of Abductors, and in the Mothership.

You can combine them with weapons to gain some cool alien tech like the Kymera Ray Gun. They can also be used to craft IO weapons.

The Alien Nanite upgrades are as follows:

  • Rare + Assault Rifles > Pulse Rifle
  • Rare + Submachine Guns > Kymera Ray Gun
  • Rare + Snipers > Rail Gun

That covers everything we know about the Fortnite Alien Nanites. It seems that Epic Games have huge plans for Season 7, as it’s also rumored that LeBron James will be arriving as an Icon Series skin.

Best controller settings for Fortnite Season 7

If you’re looking to build faster and shoot straighter in Fortnite Season 7, try out these controller settings and binds.

Fortnite Controllers

To help you build fast and shoot straight in Fortnite, we’ve put together the best Xbox and PlayStation controller settings and layout you can use.

As Fortnite is a crossplay game, controller and mouse and keyboard players will constantly be facing off against each other. Although M&K players have much more buttons at their fingertips and the precision of using their whole arm to aim, controller players have been dominating competitive Fortnite.

By using the best settings on Xbox and PlayStation controllers, you can also dominate the competition. Here are the best controller settings for Fortnite Season 7.

Best Fortnite controller settings

Mando in Fortnite

Almost everyone has their preference when it comes to Xbox and PlayStation controllers. Some prefer the smaller PS controller as makes the Claw grip easier to use, but others prefer the diagonal stick placement of the Xbox controller.

No matter which controller you use to play Fortnite, these settings will be perfect for either.

Game

Movement

  • Toggle Sprint: Off
  • Sprint by Default: On
  • Sprint Cancels Reloading: Off
  • Auto-Open Doors: On

Combat

  • Hold To Swap Pickup: On
  • Toggle Targeting: Off
  • Mark Danger When Targeting: On
  • Auto Pick Up Weapons: On
  • Preferred Item Slots: On
    • Loadout Slot 1: Shotgun
    • Loadout Slot 2: SMG
    • Loadout Slot 3: Consumable Item
    • Loadout Slot 4: Consumable Item
    • Loadout Slot 5: Assault Rifle
  • Auto Sort Consumables to Right: Off

The Preferred Item Slots system came in Season 7’s 17.20 update and makes inventory management much easier. After activating this, items will automatically be placed in whatever slot you’ve set. There’s no right or wrong order, but we’ve explained our reasoning further down.

Building

  • Reset Build Choice: On
  • Disable Pre-Edit Option: On
  • Turbo Building: On
  • Confirm Edit on Release: On

Controller Options

Fortnite boats

Input

  • Controller Auto-Run: On
  • Build Immediately (Builder Pro): On
  • Edit Hold Time: 0.115
  • Vibration: Off

Sensitivity

For sensitivity, it’s really what you feel most comfortable with. You’ll want to have a relatively low look sensitivity with a higher build and edit sensitivity. This keeps you accurate while allowing for quick building and editing for fights.

Give our settings a try and tweak until you’re comfortable and it suits your playstyle.

  • Build Mode Sensitivity Multiplier: 2.3x
  • Edit Mode Sensitivity Multiplier: 2.3x
  • Use Advanced Options: On

Advanced – Look Sensitivity

  • Look Horizontal Speed: 45%
  • Look Vertical Speed: 45%
  • Turning Horizontal Boost: 0%
  • Turning Boost Ramp Time: 0%
  • Instant Boost When Building: Off

Advanced – Aim Down Sights (ADS) Sensitivity

  • ADS Look Horizontal Speed: 14%
  • ADS Look Vertical Speed: 14%
  • ADS Turning Horizontal Boost: 0%
  • ADS Turning Vertical Boost: 0%
  • ADS Turning Boost Ramp Time: 0.00 Seconds

Advanced – Sensitivity

  • Look Dampening Time: 0.00
  • Look Input Curve: Linear
  • Aim Assist Strength: 100%

Controller Deadzone

Deadzone is all dependent on your controller. For maximum accuracy and reaction time, want it to be the lowest possible value without getting stick-drift.

  • Left Stick Deadzone: 0 (then increase as required)
  • Right Stick Deadzone: 0 (then increase as required)

Jump into a game of Creative, lower your Deadzone down to 0, then slowly build it up until your sticks stop drifting by themselves. We use 6% for the left and 5% for the right, although your controller may require a different setting.

Controller Configuration

Fortnite controller configuration

For controls, Builder Pro is your best friend. When Fortnite was first released, the default controller options were clunky and awkward. Epic Games have since added loads of accessibility support for controllers and Builder Pro is by far the most intuitive and easy to use.

Start with Builder Pro, and work out the best binds for you.

To make editing quicker and easier, you should bind Edit to L3/Left Stick. This will allow you to quickly make edits on the fly without accidentally editing while trying to build. By enabling Sprint by Default, you won’t have to worry about unbinding Sprint to do this.

If you use a controller on PC, make sure to choose the Generic controller option. For some reason, this option decreases button latency when compared to Xbox or PlayStation controllers.

Fortnite Weapon/item order

Best Fortnite inventory order

If you watch professional Fortnite controller players, you will notice that they always have their shotgun in their first slot. This is because if you press Pickaxe > Build > Switch Weapon, it always defaults to your 1 slot, no matter which weapon you were holding to start the sequence.

This might sound a bit complicated, but it’s a very common sequence in Fortnite. We just described the input of taking someone’s wall. If you keep your AR in your first slot, as many players do, you’ll need to switch weapons twice to get to your shotgun – costing you precious time.

The new setup will take a bit of getting used to, but it’s as simple as moving your entire inventory to the right, once. You’ll also need to disable Auto-Sort Consumables to the left if you have it enabled.

Give these controller settings a try in Fortnite, and you’ll be building and shooting like the pros in no time.

How to equip a Detector & disable Alien billboards for Fortnite Quests

Here’s where you can find Detectors and disable Alien billboards for Fortnite’s Season 7 Week 9 Legendary Quest.

Published

Fortnite billboard under Mothership

It’s another week, which means there are new Fortnite Quests to complete! One of the more difficult tasks in the new set wants players to find and equip a Detector, then disable an Alien Billboard.

Fortnite’s 17.30 update officially kicked off another week in Fortnite, introducing the highly-anticipated Grab-itron weapon, and setting the stage for Ariana Grande’s Rift Tour concert.

While there weren’t many map changes of note, one thing that eagle-eyed Fortnite fans will have noticed is the appearance of billboards, which the Aliens have programmed to say “SUBMIT” whenever a player gets close.

Now, it’s up to you to stop the Alien’s message to players by finding and equipping a Detector and then disabling the billboards.

Here’s everything you need to complete Week 9’s Legendary quest.

Where to find and equip a Detector in Fortnite

The good news is that finding the Detectors are relatively easy, as they are all located in named Fortnite locations where there is also a billboard.

There are seven locations where players can head, which are:

  • Believer Beach
  • Boney Burbs
  • Craggy Cliffs
  • Lazy Lake
  • Misty Meadows
  • Pleasant Park
  • Retail Row

Once you choose a location to land at, you’re looking for a black crate somewhere in the area. The boxes are found outside somewhere, so don’t worry about searching every building you see.

Once you spot it, simply head over and interact with it. You’ll then be able to equip the Detector and start the second part of this quest.

How to disable an Alien Billboard

A Detector at Fortnite's Misty Meadows

The final part of this challenge is pretty straightforward. Once you have your Detector equipped, look for the billboard which has been planted in the area, walk over to it, and interact with it. The billboards are usually just outside the POI, but they’re big enough that you should spot them pretty easily.

It’s important to note that this challenge doesn’t track across multiple games, which means you must complete both parts in the same match. If you get the Detector but die before you get to the billboard, you’ll need to start from scratch.

It’s well worth taking on this Quest though, as the XP reward will help you rank up your Season 7 Battle Pass before Fortnite Season 8 kicks off.
