Fortnite devs respond to crazy Fortnite Season 5 XP glitch

Andrew Highton

Season 5 is still in its infancy and yet some Fortnite players have already managed to reach Level 300 after discovering a huge XP glitch. Epic Games has since responded to the exploit.

Following the dramatic events that unfolded with Galactus and his subsequent defeat, Fortnite has undergone some major changes.

One notable change is the addition and alteration of popular locations. Epic Games are actively encouraging players to explore the map and are offering rewards for players that search every nook and cranny of the Season 5 island.

Fortnite XP glitch

This bug wasn’t the usual case of jumping onto a specific pixel, pausing the game seven times, and entering a 64-digit code. This XP glitch was actually something that any frolicking Fortniter could easily stumble across.

As demonstrated in a YouTube video by Glitch King, if players landed in a specific spot in Weeping Woods, then the 8K discovery bonus would trigger. However, if you kept running around the exact same spot over and over again, the game would keep automatically triggering the 8K bonus.

As a result, player levels skyrocketed thanks to this obscene accumulation of XP in such a short space of time.

Here’s the full video to show how players achieved this.

Can I still use the glitch?

Unfortunately not. People’s desire to let their exploitation be heard has inevitably backfired, as Epic responded quite quickly upon hearing the news.

Here’s an official tweet from the Fortnite Status handle explaining the whole situation.

A typical case of the few spoiling it for the many. Thankfully it was only a few hours later that the page posted an update. It’s nice to see they’re awarding XP for those who’ve had to miss out on earning XP normally.

Epic does have to take responsibility for this glitch as it’s an entirely harmless one that was accidentally discovered, but it’s just a shame that it has been exploited so heavily and restricted honest players in the process.
