Fortnite Impostors is a new mode added into the game for players to try out. Here’s how to play it, as well as some handy tips on being the perfect Impostor.

Even as it begins to slowly draw to a close, the Fortnite Season 7 content just keeps on coming. Both Wonder Woman and Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy have crossed over recently, with the likes of Naruto reportedly on the horizon.

However, Epic has gone one step further by adding in an entirely new mode in the latest update. Impostors isn’t too far away from a game like Among Us, but with a fresh coat of paint that roots it firmly in the Fortnite universe. Here’s how you can play and win Fortnite Imposters.

What is the new mode?

Between four and ten players can load into a game of Fortnite Impostors, with up to 8 being assigned the role of Agents. On a new map called The Bridge, these players are given a list of Fortnite-related tasks, whether preparing Chests and Llamas or fixing up the Battle Bus.

However, up to two players are given the role of Impostors. Their aim is to eliminate the Agents while blending in to avoid being discovered. Impostors also have a list of tasks they can complete to gain some trust, but each one they finish edges their opponents closer to victory.

How to win Fortnite Impostors as an Agent

When playing as an Agent, you have two routes to victory. The first is simply completing all of the assigned tasks at the start of the game while there are still enough Agents left standing. Impostors can also contribute to throwing players off the scent, but once all are completed, the Agents automatically win.

The second is by voting off all of the Impostors in the game. Agents can trigger a Discussion about who they feel is an Impostor by discovering a fallen teammate or triggering a panel on the map. The remaining agents can then vote out the player they are most suspicious of.

How to win Fortnite Impostors as an Impostor

For Fortnite Impostors, the only way to win is by eliminating all of the Agents without being discovered. While a Discussion is ongoing, you can use speech commands to convince others players that you are innocent.

To help stay hidden, Impostors are granted a few abilities. They are:

  • Disable Assignments – Temporarily freeze progress on all assignments
  • Teleport Players – Relocate all Agents and Impostors to somewhere else on The Bridge
  • Peely Party – For a short time, all Agents and Impostors look like Peely
The Bridge

How to complete Assignments

Whicher side you’re playing as, completing Assignments is a key part of Fortnite Impostors. Players can find tasks using the minimap on the bottom of the screen, with each one marked as an exclamation point.

While you’re completing a task, your screen is occupied, which is the perfect time for an Impostor to swoop in for the eliminations, so be on your guard. It’s also important to remember that Impostor can complete Assignments too, so seeing someone looking busy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re safe.

Fortnite Impostors tips and tricks

If you’re planning on diving in for the first time, it’s easy to be overwhelmed as other players lie and eliminate their way to victory. So, here are some tips to help you hold your own.

Follow Peely

Peely Party has emerged as an effective way of throwing Agents off the scent when you’re creeping around The Bridge. But if you’re on the other side, it can feel like the killer is getting a free pass because everyone looks like the same banana.

But if an Impostor does play Peely Party and you witness an elimination, resisting the urge to report it straight away is a way of combating its effectiveness. Instead of calling a Discussion immediately, be sure to chase after the killer so that when the power-up wears off, you can get a good look at who they are and can go into the chat well-informed.

Be the first to message

Speaking of Discussions, Impostors doesn’t feature any voice chat unless you’re in a party on a console or using an app like Discord. Instead, it relies on a series of pre-assigned text prompts for players to communicate.

This makes it tough to get your point across when everyone begins throwing out accusations. We recommend you put your thoughts as early as possible to try and dictate the conversation, especially if you’re trying to convince your fellow Agents that someone is guilty or an Impostor aiming to throw someone under the bus.

Keep track of where you’ve been

Although it sounds obvious, it’s easy to run from Assignment to Assignment when you’re an Agent without remembering which part of The Bridge you’ve been on and who with.

It’s always worth taking a mental note of which rooms you’ve been in and which other players you saw in the same areas when playing Fortnite Impostors. This will be extremely handy when it’s Discussion time, and Impostors are laying out their alibis.

If you know who’s been where, then you might be able to poke holes in what others players are saying and identify those who are lying in an attempt to cover their tracks.

Make sure you can see footsteps

Especially when playing as an Impostor, it’s crucial to be aware of how many other players are nearby. That’s why turning on this accessibility feature could make a huge difference.

Switching on “Visualize Sound Effects” in the game’s settings makes footsteps appear on-screen, usually from much further away than if you were trying to listen through a headset. This is why it has already been adopted by many in the normal battle royale mode.

By turning the indicators on, Impostors can be far more confident that the Agent they are planning to eliminate is alone, and someone isn’t going to run around the corner and catch them in the act.

How to complete Fortnite Impostors Challenges to earn XP

Although Impostors isn’t a traditional Fortnite mode, it still grants you XP to level up the Battle Pass. Even just completing a game rewards you and helps you boost your progression.

There are also a series of hidden challenges specific to the mode, which pop up at the end of the game. These are:

  • Complete assignments as an Agent: 4,500 XP
  • Play a Match: 1,500 XP
  • Spend time playing in a Match: 450 XP
  • Complete a Match: 3,000 XP
  • Win a Match: 3,000 XP
  • Perform Sabotages as an Impostor: 3,000 XP
  • Eliminate Agents as an Impostor: 4,000 XP

More challenges will likely be available as time goes on, but these are the handful that have been discovered so far.
