Reports of a crossover between Fortnite and Sony’s critically acclaimed The Last of Us series in the works had fans excited, but Naughty Dog’s Co-President has quickly shot down the rumors.

Crossovers are one of the many reasons that Fortnite remains so popular season after season. Some of pop culture’s biggest names have dropped into the island, and new collaborations are constantly being announced.

As recently as Chapter 3 Season 3, we’ve seen the likes of Darth Vader and Indiana Jones, with a Dragon-Ball Z event expected to drop shortly.

Towards the end of July, leakers began reporting that a Fortnite x The Last of Us crossover was in the works. However, Naughty Dog’s Co-President has dismissed the reports, much to the disappointment of fans.

After plenty of reports and speculation, on July 24 Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckman tweeted to put an end to the rumors.

“Love me some Fortnite… but there are no plans for this,” Druckmann said in response to a new-deleted tweet from Fortnite insider Shiina. “False rumor.”

Druckman’s message caused Shiina to respond, explaining that they should have been clearer that The Last of Us crossover was a rumor and not an official leak.

“I was overconfident, too many people talked to me about a possible collaboration within just a few days,” the leaker said. “This led me to believe that this collaboration was as good as confirmed, when in fact it obviously was not.”

The Last of Us series is one of the most critically acclaimed series of all time, and with a ramke of the first game set to release in September 2022, many felt that now would be the right time for a crossover to happen.

Fans had hoped to see Joel and Ellie skins appear in the Epic Store, following other Sony staples like Kratos (God of War) and Nathan Drake (Uncharted) into Fortnite.

Unfortunately, it appears that there are no plans for any characters from either game to make the jump into Epic’s battle royale. Maybe seeing so many fans in support of the collaboration will kickstart talks between the two developers, but only time will tell.
