Fortnite leak reveals major Season 5 map change

Fortnite Season 5 is well underway, and one dataminer has revealed that Colossal Coliseum, which was only introduced in the major seasonal update, could go under a big change.

As with any seasonal update, Epic Games introduced a number of new Points of Interest and named location, with one of the most interesting taking the form of a massive coliseum.

Sitting close to the Zero Point which has taken over the center of the island, the Colossal Coliseum is unlike any location we’ve seen in Fortnite before, making it a fan-favorite among Season 5 players.

That means some fans of the battle royale will be disappointed to here that the files currently suggest it may undergo a pretty major change in the coming weeks.

Fortnite dataminer Mang0e revealed on December 28 that a new version of the location had been added to the game’s files in the v15.10 update, which would completely change how the area plays should it be used in-game.

The sandy area where players could square off in battle would be flooded, with the two viking ships floating side-by-side. With some wooden platforms, there would still be areas for battle, but the close combat seen inside the coliseum would be much more unlikely.

As pointed out by Mang0e, this would actually make a lot of sense, as back in Roman times they would flood the coliseum’s and have two ships battle it out to be crowned the victor. It seems Epic have eyes of launching the same kind of contest here, which would offer some new combat opportunities for players.

With the Zero Point remaining unstable, it also makes sense to continue to tweak the island with new locations or updates as Jonesy and his team of bounty hunters try to save the reality of the Fortnite world.

Of course, there’s no guarantee as to when this map change will take place, but keep an eye on future Fortnite updates.
