Epic Games added soccer players as NPCs in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 6, and now seem to be focusing on basketball, as some new leaks are pointing towards an upcoming crossover event with the NBA.

Fortnite’s March 30 update brought soccer players to the battle royale as part of the Neymar Jr. challenges that you can complete unlocking the popular player as a skin. Now, the developers might shift their focus towards another sport.

Some new leaks have emerged which suggest that Epic Games are planning to collaborate with the NBA for a basketball-themed event within the battle royale. Here’s everything we know about this so far.

NBA and Fortnite crossover

This information came from notable Fortnite data miner Shook, who posted details about this event in the FortniteLeaks subreddit. According to the leaker, the event will start at 8 a.m ET on May 12, 2021.

You’ll get to support one out of thirty NBA teams by tackling various daily quests when Team Battles are released. These tasks include eliminations and spending minutes in the game, with each one netting you points for your chosen team.

The top players will win the following rewards:

  • 1st place: 500 V-bucks + NBA Championship Back Bling
  • 2nd place: 300 V-bucks
  • 3rd place: 100 V-bucks

Even if you don’t get first place in the Fortnite NBA event, you’ll be able to purchase the NBA Championship Back Bling in the Item Shop when it arrives there in the future. Completing three of the daily quests will get you Grand Champion Spray.

There was also another leaked reward for the Fortnite NBA event. “Prior to this, the “Hookshot” toy was leaked,” Shook wrote. “It can no longer be found on the website so maybe scrapped or earnable through another method.”

We currently don’t know if any NBA-themed skins will be coming to the Fortnite NBA event because the promotional image didn’t show any. That would be a missed opportunity, as players might enjoy playing as Lebron James and other stars.

Keep in mind that these are leaks, and nothing official regarding a Fortnite NBA event has been announced by Epic Games yet. We’ll keep checking for updates and will inform you once we learn something new.
