Fortnite players who were hoping to get their hands on Season 8’s special Rainbow Racer skin have been left infuriated by the extremely difficult challenge required to unlock it in the Refer-A-Friend program.

The new Refer-A-Friend beta in Fortnite lets you earn neat rewards by inviting a few friends to the game and completing challenges alongside them. One of the new rewards you can get is the Rainbow Rider skin.

While fans love this new outfit, many of them aren’t happy with the requirement to unlock it as they consider the challenge to be “ridiculous.” Now, the Fortnite community is looking for ways to get around this requirement.

Rainbow Racer in Refer A Friend

Reddit user Rifted-06 highlighted this issue in the official Fortnite subreddit. While using the Refer-A-Friend program, the last challenge to unlock the Rainbow Racer Fortnite skin requires you and your friends to reach level 60 individually.

This can be frustrating if one of your friends is far behind everyone else, as the rest of the team won’t earn the skin until their teammate finally hits level 60. Worse, if that player never reaches that target, none of the team will get Rainbow Racer at all.

“Every time Epic seems to try and make a website event, involving bringing back friends, it always seems to fall flat. This is just another example of how NOT to do Friend challenges,” wrote one user.

Now, Fortnite players are creating alt accounts to use in place of a referred friend so that they can level both accounts themselves. Some are even planning to use the Creative mode to go AFK every day while gradually earning XP.

“You have until January 11th and as far as I can tell you don’t need to do the levels together,” one Fortnite fan said. “You can just play on your main till you have 60 and then switch to the secondary to get 60 levels.”.

It remains to be seen if the requirements to unlock the Rainbow Racer outfit will change in the future. Currently, you can register before November 14 to start claiming the rewards in Fortnite’s Refer a Friend program.
