Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 introduced a big update to the game’s sliding mechanic, which inadvertently brought back the ability to bunny hop during combat.

Epic Game have brought a plethora of brand-new content in the Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 update, including animals for you to ride, the Screwballer rollercoaster, and the Indiana Jones skin.

Season 3 also made an update to Fortnite Chapter 3’s sliding mechanic, and players quickly realized that through this change, Epic Games have made it possible to bunny hop again in the battle royale title.

Bunny hopping is a strategy that consists of moving across the map by continually running and jumping. This makes you a more difficult target to hit, and you can keep firing weapons while hopping around.

Epic Games previously nerfed the bunny hop mechanic, limiting Fortnite players to just one bounce. This meant that players would be stopped when attempting a second continuous jump, preventing them from extending their momentum.

Fortnite Chapter 3, Season 3 allows you to continuously build momentum through uninterrupted slides. However, players soon discovered that this movement update also allows them to build momentum when jumping around.

Fortnite content creator ‘Elite FoxMan’ posted a clip of them bunny hopping around the map without stopping dead when they hit the ground.

After seeing this clip, plenty of Fortnite players immediately jumped into the game to test it for themselves, confirming its legitimacy. This will come in handy if you’re looking to avoid taking damage when engaging enemies in combat.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether or not the return of bunny hops in Fortnite was an intentional decision from the developers. It’s possible that this may have been an accidental side effect of the adjustments made to sliding.

Epic Games have not shied away from making major changes to gameplay, with the Zero-Build mode being a recent example, so this could be intentional. If not, we’ll probably see it patched out of the game in a future update.
